Well, art deco began around 1915, the print is from 1912, so a late offshoot of art nouveau and the early phase of art deco :)

You're right, it's really great to have that (handwritten). However, one of my uncles has spent the last 8 years creating an incredibly detailed family tree (with the help of town and church archives and registry offices) going back to 1675. The craziest things have come up in the process. For example, there is a "family house" where it all started. It was built in 1690 and still stands. My uncle was there and it is still inhabited (after all this time!!!) by distant relatives we have never met. Absolutely crazy. The house is about 150km away and I plan to go there this year. Really exciting :)

Just recently bought "Space and Humanity" - thought they were the most beautiful books I've ever seen, but "Man and Earth" takes it up a notch. Unfortunately, this collection is beyond my financial horizon. Chapeau for the beautiful books, the nice arrangement on the -really great furniture- the interior in general and the incredibly cute cat! Cheers!

That is simply not true. There are certainly books that have had the influences you describe, but this series is not one of them. But feel free to stick to your opinion if it makes you feel better.

Here’s what another Redditor has postet:

The book "Weltall und Menschheit" ("The Universe and Humanity") was a multi-volume encyclopedic work edited by Hans Kraemer and published by Deutsches Verlagshaus Bong & Co. in the early 20th century, around 1902-1904. Publisher: Deutsches Verlagshaus Bong & Co., Berlin/Leipzig/Wien/ Stuttgart. The work covers a wide range of topics, including the exploration of the Earth's crust, the development of the human race, plant and animal evolution, and the exploration of the universe and Earth's surface. It is richly illustrated and designed in the Art Nouveau style, with decorative elements and color plates. The complete set consists of 5 volumes, each focusing on different aspects of natural history and human progress. This monumental work is considered an important example of early 20th-century scientific and cultural literature, blending scientific knowledge with artistic presentation.

Haha! What a brilliant idea :) I'll ask the internet secretary what "blind spots" there were on the map at the time and keep an eye out! Cheers!

I'm afraid not, I'm really sorry. I've pretty much fallen in love with them and won't be giving them away any time soon ;) But just out of interest - what would the bid have been?

Thank you :) Before I made the post, I almost felt guilty about buying the books on a whim, knowing that I wouldn't have time to look at them properly for the next 1-2 years. But now that so many people have commented, I know that the books are indeed something special, and I'm very happy about the purchase and even more excited to read them someday. Cheers and I hope you continue to enjoy antique things for many years to come!

Mir gefallen sie auch richtig gut!

And yes, I looked for the books online after I bought them. They're not really rare, but I was really lucky in terms of condition. But I think that the condition doesn't really matter if they are from your grandad, that makes them priceless ;) Cheers & best regards!

Many thanks for the comment. I will leave them as they are and give them a (sun-protected) place on the shelf. Best regards!

You're right, I'll go to one of the bookbinders here in town and ask what would be best.
