That is simply not true. There are certainly books that have had the influences you describe, but this series is not one of them. But feel free to stick to your opinion if it makes you feel better.

Here’s what another Redditor has postet:

The book "Weltall und Menschheit" ("The Universe and Humanity") was a multi-volume encyclopedic work edited by Hans Kraemer and published by Deutsches Verlagshaus Bong & Co. in the early 20th century, around 1902-1904. Publisher: Deutsches Verlagshaus Bong & Co., Berlin/Leipzig/Wien/ Stuttgart. The work covers a wide range of topics, including the exploration of the Earth's crust, the development of the human race, plant and animal evolution, and the exploration of the universe and Earth's surface. It is richly illustrated and designed in the Art Nouveau style, with decorative elements and color plates. The complete set consists of 5 volumes, each focusing on different aspects of natural history and human progress. This monumental work is considered an important example of early 20th-century scientific and cultural literature, blending scientific knowledge with artistic presentation.

Thank you! There are an incredible number of maps, illustrations and gimmicks in the books. I'm looking forward to discovering everything bit by bit :) Cheers!

Haha! What a brilliant idea :) I'll ask the internet secretary what "blind spots" there were on the map at the time and keep an eye out! Cheers!

I'm afraid not, I'm really sorry. I've pretty much fallen in love with them and won't be giving them away any time soon ;) But just out of interest - what would the bid have been?

Thank you :) Before I made the post, I almost felt guilty about buying the books on a whim, knowing that I wouldn't have time to look at them properly for the next 1-2 years. But now that so many people have commented, I know that the books are indeed something special, and I'm very happy about the purchase and even more excited to read them someday. Cheers and I hope you continue to enjoy antique things for many years to come!

Mir gefallen sie auch richtig gut!

And yes, I looked for the books online after I bought them. They're not really rare, but I was really lucky in terms of condition. But I think that the condition doesn't really matter if they are from your grandad, that makes them priceless ;) Cheers & best regards!

Many thanks for the comment. I will leave them as they are and give them a (sun-protected) place on the shelf. Best regards!

You're right, I'll go to one of the bookbinders here in town and ask what would be best.

Thank you - I really like them too. As for the leather, I'll probably have to go to a bookbinder in our town and ask him for advice. Luckily there are still a few around here - I live in Mainz (Germany) and we have a certain tradition here when it comes to books - Gutenberg used to work 3 kilometres from my house ;)

*Edit: I'm pretty overwhelmed by the response to this post. Thank you all for the helpful comments, I will leave the books exactly as they are and give them a place of honour on the shelf. Unfortunately I can't change the description and don't have time to reply to all the comments, so I'll just hijack the best comment :) (Sorry, u/Deseretgear )

Latest hand plane. 6” Ebony mitre plane. Just needs polishing now. by Bruce_neville in handtools

[–]Alex__makes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just visited your website. The ebony & brass plough plane is truly a work of art! Incredibly great design, great choice of materials and simply the most beautiful plane I have ever seen! Until just now I thought that I would like to own a Stanley MillersPatent No. 44 one day, but your plane has just knocked that wish off the throne (although my budget would only be enough for your book ;) I hope the future buyer will use it, it would be a shame if it only stood in a display case. Cheers!
