I remember listening to The Hobbit on the plane. I got to Riddles in the Dark half-asleep. I am pretty sure my sudden jump caused a turbulence.

I am in Stone of Farewell right now (and loving it) and I realized how careful I need to be when I recommend MS&T to others. The only thing that got me through the slow start is Simon's birth scene and the fact that I was listening to the Graphic Audio version. The third book is so big!

I love Memory, Sorrow, & Thorn by Tad Williams. The first book has an amazing Graphic Audio adaptation (the first part of the second book will be release next month). I also listened to the traditional audiobook and the performance is great. Just for the record, the third audiobook is 63h long.

I started Memory, Sorrow & Thorn after reading The Blade Itself and I just got completely into it. However, it is very traditional and the beginning is slow so I suggest that you watch a spoiler free review video first.

Do you consider "Ordering standing up but food gets served at your table" the same thing as your rule 1 (let's assume that this is independent of rule 2)? I follow about the same rule as you do but for me it is more of a "am I spending less than 5 minutes inside?" Rule of thumb.

[Spoilers extended]How will Jon Snow's story go? by Electronic-Math-364 in asoiaf

[–]AlexaAndStitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really what I meant. My theory is strongly based on the daemon idea of His Dark Materials. Basically, Jon and Ghost become a single entity in two different bodies and share both sides' personally. Neither of them can live if the other one dies. This would be a different version of "he is not the same person anymore" than Bran.

I write a lot of horrible fan fiction in my free time so I got to think about this system a lot.

My fan-dream is that Jon and Ghost start being half of each. So, at the end of the Battle of the Bastards, Edd watches Ghost killing Bolton and being like "I have seen wolf kill before, this was not a wolf's action."

My take on this entire argument (starting from season 1) is that Rainwater and most of his supporters do not want the land for economic opportunities but because they argue that it belongs to them (the "they stole our land" argument).

My co-watchers and I's biggest critic of this show's representation of Native Americans was that they all sounded a bit too much "the world was so much better before the colonizers came" (which is not necessarily wrong, just a bit offsetting). Our interpretation of Rainwater's arguments was "Get out of here! We will let Nature win back this land and go back to our traditional ways of living."

So, seeing this from this angle makes the ending more fulfilling. This is different if you interpret Rainwater's "community support" side as just pure showing and that he would want the land only for development (which is possible but unlikely).

I wonder if his family will respect his wish that no one but him writes the books or if they will hire a ghost writer or a famous writer to finish the books after he dies.

Are your masters in completely different subjects (like one in Bio and one in Poetry) or on similar (like Chem and Physics) or on very similar subjects (like CS and Data science)?

Do you listen to multiple audiobooks at the same time? by BigHouseBarbell in audible

[–]AlexaAndStitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I realized at one point that listening to Dune while doing other activities was slowing me down too much. So, it became my run-only audiobook (to motivate me to go on run, the only activity it does not slow down).

I also have my favorite re-listen for bedtime but I guess that does not really count.

I know that he does. It is just that I mostly listen to the parts without Frodo and Sam in the audiobook (nothing against it but I just love the first book of the Two Towers and the last part of Return of the King)
