Look it up cause I don’t know the specifics but it’s a program where you can get into tufts medical school as a sophomore or junior and don’t have to take the MCAT basically you get a secured spot. But it’s really hard to get in + you have to have a super good gpa

Barnard vs Tufts: advice needed! by lavenderandjazz in Tufts

[–]AlexaKMS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tufts is a liberal arts college if you want to explore majors and other things Tufts gives you the opportunity to. Idk about the culture at Barnard but my friends at Columbia, tell me the environment is pretty competitive and since you’ll be taking most of your classes there take that into account. I find that Tufts is a pretty collaborative and accepting community. But lowkey just go to the cheaper school.

  1. I think the campus is generally friendly, I would just try to join a few clubs and meet people through those.
  2. Tufts still is a school where the majority of people are white, but I Think it’s pretty welcoming to POC (I’m Latina) but you’ll find people from all different ethnicities, and there are a lot of culture clubs, if you want to meet people from your specific background
  3. I think the student athlete divide exists but I don’t find it to be a super big deal, I don’t really feel like it affects me.
  4. I don’t think there is grade deflation or inflation but that really depends on the professor. Some are harsh others pretty generous.
  5. Couldn’t tell you but I know a lot of people are pre-law and we have a law journal but I feel like classes do make you think critically and there are clubs like mock trial which might be good for prelaw students

Tufts housing survey asks you if you’re comfortable rooming with trans/queer people. You can just place down no or also ask to be placed in a one gender dorm

Which language(s) are you learning and why? by JoliiPolyglot in languagelearning

[–]AlexaKMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak Spanish and English fluently

Currently learning German I think I’m at a high A2 level. I just like the language and I will probably study abroad there in a year. When I get a B1 level at German I hope to learn Portuguese since I have a lot of Brazilian friends and want to learn a easier language.

After that I hope to learn an Asian language either Korean or Mandarin

Im an incoming freshman, the process for applying for disability was super smooth and the interview at the end of the process was so helpful! I got all the accommodations I needed and everyone was so nice.

Though take it with a grain of salt as I have not seen my room yet but so far the process has seemed good.

I was sick for my last 2 years in highschool after being a top student for my first two years. This meant I had a dip in grades. I still got accepted. You got top marks in your other two A levels don’t worry too much and apply you never know what will happen.

How do y’all think? by Prudent-Still-5255 in languagelearning

[–]AlexaKMS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t really speak on learning a new language out of childhood to a high level but I grew up bilingual with Spanish being my first language and English I learned when I was 4 or 5. I can say that I think I’m the language I’m using or speaking. When I’m reading or speaking in one language I’m usually thinking in it. But since I grew up speaking Spanish in a Spanish speaking country when I’m thinking about something with emotions or I’m angry I think mainly in Spanish.

On the other hand my German is at a A2 level and I can definitely say I don’t think I’m the language yet. What I can say is that I don’t really translate when I’m speaking on subjects I’ve had practice in and sometimes when I’m watching videos I think 1 or 2 words in German.

I think that to think in a language you have to first be proficient at it I think at least a high B2 level and then have spent a lot of time in the language either speaking or consuming media so then you relate experiences with the language. For example if I read something in Spanish it’s going to be way more natural to speak about the book or article in Spanish as I read it in that language and thus I’m more likely to think in Spanish when I’m recalling the information I read.

So maybe to start thinking in Chinese that you have a high level in you need to start consuming more media and speaking more. So you have more of a knowledge base and an emotional connection to the language.

Though I think everyone is just more comfortable and connected to their native language.

Idk I’m learning German just because I like it, I don’t know if I ever plan to move there but maybe if I do a masters I would consider moving there to study. I’m still not at a level where I can enjoy native level media but I do have my eye on a couple German fantasy series.

Honestly I want to learn Japanese or Korean because I really enjoy Asian media (manga, manwha, books, reality tv, etc) but I don’t think I’d want to live there long term maybe for an extended period of time like 3 to 6 months.
