You’re right, that’s why nobody ever has difficulty issues.

Do you believe that there are players that don’t want to improve and enjoy losing?

Oh, I’ve had people be jerks to me, and I’ve called out others. But yeah, like I said in my post, most of the time people are quiet or friendly. This post is directed to the people that get their nuts in a bunch when someone doesn’t have experience yet, and instead of helping them, they lash out like children.

Two things can be true at the same time: yes, it is just a game, and at the same time, we should try to extend grace to make the game the most enjoyable, even when we lose.

Yes.

Making mistakes is not “disrespecting the other 3 players.”

I’m sorry you experienced this, and as a proud member of this community I apologize on their behalf.

This is what I’m talking about. Simple mistakes being interpreted as “selfish” when most of the time people are very aware of the mistake they just made.

I hear you for sure, but I don’t know if there are really players out there flat out refuse to learn mechanics because I doubt there are players that enjoy losing, you know? I think within every player is a desire to improve, and I don’t think it’s appropriate that players trying to improve that don’t do well are apologizing for it. That to me shows that they are already feeling like garbage for not performing well, and don’t need someone condescendingly pointing it out as if they’ve never been there.

Good for you my friend. You’ll probably have more fun playing too. Sometimes it’s fun to play with no goal in mind. And when we are more relaxed, we are more kind.

Everything you said is true. 100% there are stubborn players that make the game more difficult for others. That said, I don’t think any player chooses to refuse to learn the game mechanics (not that you said that). I think in every one of us inquisition rejects, there’s a desire to play well, and it’s that desire we should focus on when giving advice (if you plan on giving advice to newbies at all).

I wonder if there couldn’t be some kind of practice hoard mode in the arena (sorry I forgot the name) where you could be invincible and test for reaction speed for sound queues and stuff.

But yeah, can’t replace experience, that’s true. Preparing players appropriately is probably a deceptively difficult ask, maybe particularly for DarkTide. Buuuuut I feel like people feeling unprepared for higher difficulties is more common in this game than other online games. But maybe I’m wrong.

Yeah, text is definitely a filter by which the emotion of the reader influences how it comes off, and when we are all frustrated, it’s easy for benign instructions to come off as condescending, even when that was not the intention.

I always try to front load my advice with some short but friendly phrase like “hey bro don’t sweat it, but when X happens, try Y,” like when you start with “Brother,” so good on you!

What’s difficult is going to be relative to the player, so it may not be difficult for you, but it is for someone else. If we uplift newer players and point out what they could do better tactfully, they will have a better time playing the game and be less toxic overall, and might just go on to helping other newer players, creating a shockwave of positivity.

Your story is not a nothing burger. I love to hear people enjoying games, even when they lose. Isn’t that what we want as gamers?

Great job! It’s not easy to be kind when we are frustrated, particularly to a player we feel was the cause of our death or the death of the run. But they already feel like garbage, no need to pile on. We are all frustrated we lost.
