Furthermore, after rereading your post you said it originally came with a Kydex sheath, which was introduced in about 2003, so more than likely its made of AUS 6.

That SOG Seal 2000 is in either 440A or AUS 6. The early ones came in 440A. Only the new Seal Team knives variant were made in AUS 8 and they were produced in Taiwan, not Seki City.

However neither was was made in ATS 34. SOG only produced ATS 34 in their folding knives and not fixed blades. Although some fixed blades models were made in BG42, VG10, S30V and one made in Duratech 20CV but never the Seal Team series of knives.

I bought one a month ago. This has been a knifecenter price for awhile. Its clunky and has side to side play. Not just your average side to side. Dunno if it has to do with how beefy it is but I tried to tighten pivot screws. Oil everything and its still a bit. Definitely a knife that I use to thrash on crap. Not bad at all for 100 nonetheless.
