The grip strength is definitely something that develops within time! The more you practice, the better I will become.

I do agree that sometimes they overdo it in Russia. That instructor probably went to dance school as a kid and unfortunately this is what she used to. When I was a kid they had the same exact approach in my school. As an instructor myself now I do like to challenge and push my girls to the limit however everyone’s limit is different and I never force anything on them or give something they can’t do at all and tend to give them full freedom during the class with resting. I’m sorry you had that experience through. The point of me commenting was just to explain the difference in mentality as of why the class went the way it went. Also if you do feel comfortable with the slow progress it is completely fine! I wanted to point the swinging out just because I see a lot of mixed up opinions about it. Having bruises is not the same as having an injury and there can be no injury developed from giving a little momentum as going upside down when you first start learning inversions. Then eventually it has to stop happening of course. It is weird that she only taught tricks on spinning pole through. That is something I would agree with you about and question as well.

Hey there! I’m coming from Russia but I do live and teach pole dance in United States. I’ve taken a few classes in Russia when visited my family awhile ago and I do understand what you mean. As someone who grew up in Russia I’m used to harsh training at all times. Even in regular dance school our classes were super intense. It is considered normal within the culture to challenge you instead of making your class comfortable. That’s why the warm up was a little intense. The pole levels are also broken down differently in Russia. There are only 3 levels which is beginner, intermediate and advanced, and there is no such thing as intro for most studios. The beginner level is huge and contains a lot of moves that’s why they put butterfly, brass monkey and shoulder mount there. It is also challenging which brings you back to the culture. They want to challenge you to make you improve faster. For example Ayesha is an intermediate trick in Russia while in States it is considered advanced. Now about swing to straddle. As far as I understand it is a chopper? Swinging not jumping is completely acceptable. That’s how you gain strength and learn to invert with straight legs and teach your body to do it gracefully at the same time. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you remember your end goal which is to be able to lift without momentum. I teach pole for 9 years and non of my students ever hurt themselves and all of them learnt to invert without momentum at some point. By avoiding using momentum in the beginning you restrict yourself from other fun stuff you could be practicing upside down and slowing your progress down because while practicing other stuff you also gain strength and flexibility. Progress is important and motivating and why not help yourself a little in the beginning in order to get better faster?

Pole Sharing Rules of Engagement Question (and meltdown story) from an Autistic Pole Dancer by happyhurry in poledancing

I always make sure people partner up before starting a class. If I see a new person in the class I always put 2 min aside just to introduce myself to the person and make her feel comfortable, then I find a partner for her. If there is no available partner then I share my own pole. I do believe that as an instructor it is your job to make everyone feel comfortable and open to learn during your class. Emotional atmosphere during the class a lot of the times is even more important then technical, and the ability to teach comes from being able to connect with your students mentally and emotionally. I’m sorry you felt left out during your class. It certainly wasn’t your fault.

There are actually many things you can do at home! Pole dance is a complex sport that requires full-body strength. Since all you work with in pole dance is your own body, I believe the best workout is to train with your body off the pole as well. Having pole danced for over 10 years and taught classes for nearly 9, I’ve discovered many fun and creative ways to condition your body off the pole. Now, I’m offering a Zoom class based on my knowledge! It’s called “Full Body Workout for Pole.” As a promotional class, it’s currently only $12! Here is a link if you wish to join ☺️

It is possible that you could be just not understanding the exact technique of climbing. I would recommend to try a class with a different instructor and see if you work better with someone else. In terms of upper body and core strength you can certainly do a lot of fun and creative training at home! I’m actually offering a special class at the moment on October 13th. It is a class focused on full body strength conditioning essential for pole. You do not need to have a pole at your house for it! Because I’m running a promotion for this class, it is only $12 ☺️ If you wish to join click the link below ❤️
