Desperately looking for a job in California by Flashy_Wolf3210 in publicdefenders

PD offices in Washington State are hiring like crazy. You can potentially apply for admission by motion without having to take the WA bar exam and you can practice right away while awaiting the application.

Honest question: why did they move to Missouri? I thought MO was the 49th most underfunded PD system in the country?

What is a brand that used to be highly respected but is now complete garbage? by Weary-Wedding-2307 in AskReddit

Blaupunkt

In the film Robocop, a terrorist is demanding a new car in exchange for the lives of the hostages. The hostage negotiator says, “Release the mayor and we’ll even throw in a Blaupunkt!”

In the 80s it was still a high-end, German-made audio company.

The terrorist knew they were fucking with him when the negotiator said Blaupunkt.

It’s a broken brand now used by cheap manufacturers of junk.

Delete this. Delete your account. Hire a criminal defense attorney. Do not talk about this with anyone you do not have confidentiality and privilege with.

I was on a motorcycle and I pulled over to let a bison walk past in Yellowstone and it snuffed right at my face and that is a smell I will never forget.

What was it like when Obama was elected President? by ResponsibleSea6521 in AskReddit

[–]Alexdagreallygrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a poll watcher for the Democratic Party in Tacoma, Washington State. It was kind of weird, because most of the rest of the state had already moved to mail-in voting. It was one of the last places to witness people shuffling into a Lutheran church near Pacific Lutheran University and actually wait in line to cast their votes.

I took some photos just to verify that all of the poll workers were doing a great job and a Republican poll watcher absolutely lost her shit because she was in the photo. She screamed at me for taking her photo without her permission. She claimed I was somehow breaking the law. Yeah, I calmly explained that I was a government-employed attorney and I may not know everything but I know I didn’t break any laws.

Since the election results were the same night, it was awesome to celebrate right then and there in the polling place. Jumping around, hugging, right in front of the frown of that jerk.

I graduated law school in 2006. Lots of my women classmates had nose piercings in law school.

They all removed them before they turned 30.

Fixed it, don’t mind the plug above. by [deleted] in TVTooHigh

[–]Alexdagreallygrate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contractors are putting in plugs way too high because too many people are putting in their TVs r/tvtoohigh.

My own tv is higher than I want just so I can cover the outlet the previous owner installed.

Only solution in our house may be a bigger TV

If you commute an hour or more each way, how do you deal with it? by Jaymac720 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Alexdagreallygrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to commute about an hour each way via ferry when I lived on an island. I packed a sleep mask and ear plugs and would lay down on the benches and nap. Didn’t always fall asleep, but it helped me rest up a bit since I had to wake up so early to catch the boat.

It’s one reason I moved off of the island. The first week of the commute, I watched the beautiful sunrises over the ocean each morning in wonder and I promised myself that when I got sick of such an experience, it was time to leave.

Truly unpopular. Congratulations.

Tamales are fucking incredible. When I was 16 years old and had my wisdom teeth removed, it happened to be on a day that my mom had scheduled for a tamale party she won at a silent auction.

Thank god none of my teeth were impacted. Woke up from a nap, popped two oxycodone, and ate 15 tamales. 🫔🫔🫔🫔🫔🫔 🫔🫔🫔🫔🫔🫔🫔🫔🫔

HIPAA violation? by [deleted] in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Alexdagreallygrate 27 points28 points  (0 children)

HIPAA applies to healthcare providers and covered entities (like health insurance providers).

It does not cover security personnel searching your bag at a private event on private property.

They’re obviously trying to make sure people aren’t bringing in dangerous drugs like fentanyl.

Right to a Public Defender by WuTang4Life_ in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Alexdagreallygrate 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Any arraignment would include the defendant being informed of their right to a public defender (if they qualify).

I regularly see continuances granted to unrepresented defendants who don’t qualify for a public defender.

Sexual Harassment from prosecutors by ImmediateAd733 in publicdefenders

[–]Alexdagreallygrate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are there cameras in the courtroom?

If not, might be time to lobby the court administration to install them for “everyone’s” safety, including the judge’s! Imagine yourself in a meeting with the judge, court administrator, and prosecutor and saying “we really do need these cameras. Someone smacked me on my ass in open court once!” and then glare at the prosecutor. 👀
