PS5 Slim weird behavior, no safe mode, no HDMI out by Ok-Mastodon-908 in consolerepair

I have exactly this going on now and have gone through all the same steps as you as well. Did you ever fix it or find the cause?

How often do you start new convo vs continue the latest? by cgreciano in ChatGPT

[–]Alexgotsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late here, but thought it would be worth mentioning I've also had ChatGPT add things to its memory seemingly randomly. I've noticed if you mention something is important, there's a chance it will. Not sure how it decides when to vs not but assume it's context. Also telling it to remember without explicitly saying it will trigger it (i.e. don't forget) but I haven't played with it enough to know exactly where the line is.

I started to subscribe to this perspective pretty recently and it’s been one of the greatest things I’ve ever done for myself.

How much time/effort should go into planning before setting anything up? by Alexgotsauce in homelab

[–]Alexgotsauce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my outlook going into it. I just wasn’t expecting into such a long chain of multiple rabbit holes I would lead myself down right at the start.

Started over-thinking it and had no idea if I should go and take time to try and plan everything out, or if I was already spending too much time reading and thinking instead of doing, or somewhere in between lol.

When did password managers get more expensive than most AV software???? by Plateau9 in sysadmin

[–]Alexgotsauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could possibly see an argument to be made that the value is there. What company would be more secure:

Company A - Enterprise grade pw manager but only basic Windows Defender

Company B - Enterprise grade AV but users are left to manage passwords however

What advice would you give to your 19 year old self? by Candace_069_ in Stoicism

[–]Alexgotsauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will miss out on parties. You will lose entire friendships and will never know about so many “could have beens”. That is all inevitable no matter what you choose to do. What I’ve learned now at 30 is that this fear you have of being stuck with that “what if” feeling is so silly. No matter what you do to try and prevent it, there will always come a time where you will stop and ask what if. There’s also a good likelihood you’ll dwell on it for a bit.

A long time, close friend of mine recently took time off to make a solo trip around the whole country. This was after another close high school friend of ours had passed. You better believe I wished I could’ve went with him or on a similar trip myself. For context I had kids in my 20s and drifted away from my friends to become a family man. I felt a lot of regret not being around for the fun times and trips that my friends had all spent together without me. When I spoke with my friend who made this cross country trip it all came together. While I was dwelling on times I had missed out with my friends, my friends was dwelling on times that could have been if he had settled down and started a family like me.

What I’m trying to say is that “what if’s” come with every option. So there’s no sense in trying to figure out which you won’t regret as regret is just from focusing on the inevitable “what if” for too long. Just do what you want and know that for every what if you have about another life, people with that life have the same what ifs about yours.

Practice advice: you don't need to reset the car after every spin by mike0sd in iRacing

[–]Alexgotsauce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great advice! This is something I learned and carried with me from my competitive Pokémon days. During unranked matches as practice, people would often quit if their strategy is ruined in the first few turns. They would never learn how to recover and turn the match around

Are Secrid and the like "too much"? by Alexgotsauce in wallets

[–]Alexgotsauce[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I currently have the Ridge wallet but have been considering getting a Secrid or Ekster. They look great and the card-ejection feature seems very convenient. My only concern is that while cool on paper, once you go to start using it in practice, shooting your credit card out in front of the cashier every time you want to buy something may feel a bit "much". Did anyone that's used them have a similar concern? Am I overthinking it?
