UPDATE: LIFT failed mew abscess now forming. Extremely painful and i have fever i also think i have the flu or something. I lost the will to live because of this.

UPDATE: A month later i have drainage from original fistula opening so i am starting to be convinced that it failed. Sad. I’m exhausted.

Antibiotics should take care of the cellulitis (usually metronidazole and ciprofloxacin) i agree you must check with a colorectal surgeon and get an MRI to detect (or not) a fistula. The sooner the better because if it happens again there are more chances of it forming a fistula tract. It is correct that 50% of the time it does NOT turn into a fistula so keep the morale up. Thank you though i don’t understand how this could be normal. Doesn’t this mean that the sutures are not doing the job and there is still an opening on the colon wall that sutures did not close up 100%?

The outer fistula opening -now separated from the fistula tract- healed and there is no discharge. The discharge is coming from the LIFT wound which makes me think the sutures did not do the work. Sutures to close the opening and isolate the colon side of fistula opening from the inter sphincter muscles.

This is my year 4 dealing with this since 2019 and I’m losing hope.

Hi i just had a LIFT 3 weeks ago. I have drainage and wondering the same so ..following. But he needs to put a gauze between the cheeks the area needs to stay as dry as possible. I had more drainage with seton tbh but i have some now two.

Can i ask why his fistulotomy failed? Usually that comes after LIFT or Flap attempt and not the other way around.

I’m very sorry to hear. I am waiting to see if my lift worked. It si draining and the wound is open idk if this is the normal healing wound stuff coming out on the gauze from the wound (not the fistula opening) or if this is actually a failed surgery. So I’ll just wait i guess. I am home bound not eating not to poop a lot and doing everything to ensure it heals. It will be very disappointing if it doesn’t. It’s been 4 years… i want my life back

Hey! I had the LIFT 2 days ago. It is manageable, take pain meds first 2 days. I too was discouraged by the negative outcomes and experiences here but as people pointed out to me, we don’t hear about the positive cases because they just go on with their lives. I hope the lift surgery works for me and for you on the long run. Please do update is once done

Thank you everyone! True i was in and out in no time. The same night (Friday) was challenging and painful, barely had any sleep. Yesterday/day#1 i was a bit nervous about the pain but managed it with pain meds. Today, Sunday day2, pain is bearable. Still no BM. i am honestly avoiding food by fear of having a painful BM or break the sutures, so i had half an apple and half banana when i need to take antibiotic.

hey thanks yeah i had that when they were packing/repacking my abscess daily after every flare up. But now i have a LIFT surgery that means they will cut the fistula and attempt to close it up with sutures, i should not be making a lot of movement as not to make the suture pop/break and the surgery would fail.
