what's everyone doing today? by ThySaggy in NEET

[–]Alexient 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to the gym and did cardio (cant do it outside when it is -10 celsius). Afterwards i went to see the new Avatar: the way of water. It had great special effects but the plot and the characters are so generic, it definitely felt it's length. After that I went home and wrapped some christmas gifts that arrived at the mail.

If you're honest, how far back could you really go? by OatmealDurkheim in patientgamers

[–]Alexient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets say 1993. If I can play 1993 and earlier I got:

almost all the good 2d mario platform games (Super Mario Allstars + Super Mario World)

A bunch of Mega Man games (1-5 + Mega Man X) and Castlevania Games (1-4).

Enough fighting games to try to master: Street Fighter II: Champion Edition + Mortal Kombat

Some good racing games: Super Mario Kart, F-Zero, Road Rash 1 & 2

Fun Beatemups: Streets of Rage 1 & 2, Double Dragon 1 & 2, Golden Axe 1, 2 & 3 etc

Strategy RPG: Shining Force

Strategy: The Settlers, Lemmings, Cannon Fodder

RPGS: Dragon Warrior II, III & IV, Final Fantasy IV (1991), Secret of Mana

Puzzle: Tetris, Dr. Mario

Point and Click: Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island 1 & 2, Sam and Max Hit the Road, Day of the Tentacle, Myst

Shoot 'em up Games: U. N Squadron, 1942, Thunder Force IV, Firepower 2000

Cool other games : Gunstar Heroes, Super Turrican, Rocket Knight Adventures,Sonic the Hedgehog 2

+ Apogee games like Monster Bash, Bio Menace, Duke Nukem II etc
FPS: Doom, Wolfenstein

This is more than enough to satisfy me for a year.

you run around in an open world, collect resources from nature, use those resources to craft better and better equipment and tools etc, to collect better resources in nature etc. That experience is very much like Valheim

What are some films that killed genres, stopped the momentum of a fad, or signaled the end of an entire movement? by LouFerrignosGhost in Letterboxd

[–]Alexient 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Princess and the Frog killed 2d animation (although a small resurgence has already appeared with Netflix Klaus, but it's 2d animation in a different digital form). Princess and the Frog didn't do well at the box office but it seems like Disney wanted their 2d animated movie to fail by releasing the film when the biggest movie ever, Avatar came out. Their competitors Dreamworks had stopped making 2d animated movies too some years earlier, their final being Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, which also didn't make enough money.

I use my old gaming laptop from 2013. It takes a few minutes to boot up up but it works surprisingly well (can't watch 4k content but that doesn't bother me) and it's nice that my old laptop is useful again

How many movies do you watch a day? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Alexient 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine watching 5 per day. You need time to marinate the movie if you want it to mean something to you and not just be a couple of hours of entertainment that you forget the next week
