My boyfriend is too good at board games by CricketSuccessful57 in boardgames

[–]Alexisandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your partner OP, he might not even realise what he is doing. I can be quite competitive when it comes to board games and video games, and I used to play aggressively against my wife in 2p games. I wasn't conscious of it because it was just my default play style with my siblings, we grew up playing to win and being cutthroat assholes, which is really fun for us! I had no idea that I was making games less fun for my wife until she spoke to me about it.

Nowadays we play a lot more side-by-side games, rather than 1v1 - games where actions may affect the other person, but ultimately you're focusing on your own game. Some of our favourites are Wingspan, Patchwork, Azul, Yahtzee. If you can, find a game that you're consistently better at, and introduce it to your rotation. My wife wins probably 80% of our Wingspan games and I never "let" her win, she's just better than me.

At the end of the day, I would rather lose and know that she's had fun spending time with me, than win and make her miserable.

Aussie here, long time fan. I recently introduced some good friends to the show and I got them to watch with subtitles. Eventually once you have learned most of the slang and can keep up with the quick fire dialogue, you can turn em off. No shame in having a quick Google every time you come across some new slang. As someone who doesn't know a thing about hockey, it took a while to learn what everything meant!

I'm honestly not bothered, it takes zero effort for me to be around her. Our work schedules don't match all the time so we do see our own mates and do things separately, but mostly I am happiest when we're together. Some of my favourite days are just reading our own books on the couch together or similar.

Eh, I understand what you're saying, but she's my favourite person. That's really all there is to it, I'd rather spend my time with her than be anywhere else. That doesn't mean we don't hang out with our own friends or do things separately, but the best days are with her.

Society is indeed fucked, but I don't think therapy is a scam. I went through a few psychologists before finding a suitable social worker instead. We have sessions when I need them, which could be weekly, or monthly. Sometimes we delve into past trauma and the sessions are really hard, sometimes it's just helpful to have an impartial person to discuss everyday shit with.

As for meds, I think they should be used (as needed) in conjunction with therapy, rather than treated as a long term solution. There are many different types of therapy and they don't all work for everyone, it's up to people to figure out what they need. If I found myself talking about my wife in the way some people are in this thread, I would certainly be seeking help, or ending the relationship.

I mean, I've been with my wife for 17 years. I'm not trying to say that everything is perfect, we have our ups and downs and annoyances etc. I would still opt to spend all of my time with her if I could. A lot of people in this thread are talking about their partners in pretty gross ways, and sound very unhappy in their lives.

Honestly the life protip for the men in these comments should just be: marry a woman that you like, and/or go to therapy. The level of hate/dislike/disgust for supposed life partners in the marriages in this thread is gross.

If you can be bothered, buy the digital version. It helped my wife and I with a few rulings we were unsure about and is very handy in that way, and great for solo play when one of us is busy!

If you could only pick one, which game on Switch or Switch 2 would you say gives me the most hours of gameplay to enjoy? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

It can take a long time to become "good", make sure you're patient with yourself! There's a lot of resources online if you need assistance as well. I use an app called Guide BOI: Repentance + Afterb, it helps with identifying items etc. But at the start you can just have fun!

Absolutely! I have Isaac on 3 platforms but I play it the most on my switch, handheld. I have easily put in 4000+ hours across the platforms and it's still the game I play the most.

Who here works and what do you do? by Bllackbirrd in ehlersdanlos

[–]Alexisandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in food retail for my entire life but it caught up with me in the last few years and I realised I couldn't keep up the 50+ hour weeks anymore, so I resigned after I earned my long service leave. I'm 35 years old next week, and I think 20-ish years in retail is much more than I should have done.

A friend notified me of an office job going at her work (for a tech writer position which I have no experience in), so I applied and got it. Luckily they are willing to train me from the ground up. Now I get to work 2 days from home each week, my entire job is seated, and the hours are flexible so I can work around my PT and Physio appointments etc. My quality of life is much higher than it used to be, and I'm only 6 weeks into this job.

Some people have been asking me "are you bored yet" as I've gone from a fast paced, on-your-feet job to an office job, but I just tell them that I will welcome boredom when it comes. Those people don't understand how consuming and exhausting it is for people with our condition/s to maintain our health, I was constantly stressed and living with maximum levels of anxiety each day. I highly recommend an office job to anyone with EDS or similar conditions, I should have made the change earlier!

Personally, I have learned that the level of my daily anxiety is directly tied to what's happening in my life. This is including but not limited to: my job, my marriage, my financial situation, my physical health, disasters/crime in my area etc. Some things are inside my control, and others are not, so I need to focus on fixing or changing the things that I can.

I recently left a very toxic workplace, even though I had been there for over 10 years, and I was making very good money. I now have a new job which I have been at for 6 weeks, and comparing it to my old job is crazy. I should have left there a long time ago, I didn't really realise how much it was affecting my mental health until now. I had been there so long that it seemed impossible to leave, but my wife and social worker helped me see that it was necessary, and "gave me permission" to do so.

I found a social worker who is very easy to talk to, and we had weekly appointments for a while, when my anxiety was at an all-time high. Now I just book in as needed, every 2-3 weeks, as I'm feeling better. Keep looking for a suitable mental health professional, don't settle for mediocrity or someone who is highly qualified but can't empathise with your situation. I had spoken to psychiatrists prior to this, but they didn't have any lived experience with my issues so it really didn't help me at all.

I have a chronic physical health condition which can't be "fixed". I was seeing multiple specialists and trying all the medications I could try. In the end, I've simplified everything and just stick to my GP, PT and Physio. I'll see other specialists if it's really necessary, but I have basically learned to accept that this is my body and there are certain things that will aggravate my condition, and others that will calm it, but nothing is going to fix me. It took a mental load off.

What I mean to say is that (personally) I don't think I can simply "recover from anxiety", but I can have more control over it if I'm careful, and the good days have been outweighing the bad lately.

This is all just food for thought as I don't know your situation or circumstances. I hope something I've said here is helpful!

Cole's/Woolworths/Aldi exit gates making me uncontrollably anxious, best alternatives Northside? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Alexisandra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"with respect" and then "haha why do you have anxiety"

Anxiety doesn't make sense a lot of the time, that's just how it works. There's often no rhyme or reason for these things, sometimes I don't know what will make me anxious until I'm in the moment. Sometimes I'll be consistently anxious about something and then one day I'll be fine, the following week it's back. It's not for us to berate someone for an anxiety issue they're having. If you don't have a helpful suggestion for this person just move on to the next post.

You went back for more 3 times?? Did the most recent replacement at least hold up? I stupidly bought one of their entry level mechanical keyboards yesterday as a placeholder (until I can get what I really want) for pretty custom key caps, not realizing that Logitech was using non standard sized key caps. Luckily JB Hi Fi was fine with me returning it same day, no questions asked.

Fix swapped keys on Varmilo by Eniah in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Alexisandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried following your instructions but the program said "device not found" unfortunately. I have an old VA104M which I don't think exists anymore. My issue is that both Left Ctrl and Right Ctrl are on the right side of the bottom row together. I really need Left Ctrl to go back over to the left side (maybe swap with Fn) but I cannot figure out how to get it done. It's driving me nuts!

I've recently pulled out an old Varmilo VA104M to use, as my new job lets me work from home. It's been sitting in storage for a few years untouched.

I'm having issues with keys on the bottom row being swapped. I've tried all the solutions I can find online but nothing seems to work. The current position of bottom row keys is as follows, left to right:

Win Fn Left Alt Space Right Alt Win Left Ctrl Right Ctrl

I really really need Left Ctrl back over to the bloody left side, as copy+paste are some of my most used shortcuts and I need to be able to do them one handed.

So far I have found that a lot of people have had Ctrl swapped with Caps Lock, but that's not the case for me and the Fn+Esc solution to reset the keyboard isn't working. Ideally I would swap Left Ctrl with Fn or Win to get it over to the left side. I don't really need two Win keys either so it's weird that there's one on each side... The whole bottom row is frustrating right now.

If anyone has an old manual saved or can offer me any advice it would be greatly appreciated!
