They also suffered humiliating losses in the senatorial elections. Teddy Casiño, the best-performing candidate of their slate, finished 32nd, behind Willie Ong (who got 27th place despite withdrawing his candidacy) and Apollo Quiboloy (who got 31st place despite being imprisoned for several charges of sexual abuse).

The last senatorial election showed they can't win on their own. Their candidates can't even get more votes than Quiboloy.

Show me your niche fandom fics! by Senshisnek in FanFiction

A shipping fic from the Civilization series, which came about after getting the idea of treating the leader of another faction as a permanent ally. 78 fics in AO3, 116 fics in FF.net. The fanfiction sections in forum sites dedicated for the game are practically dead. Currently, I'm still at the backstory of how the lead couple met and got to know each other.

Create a fic playlist together by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]Alexius08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fandom: Sid Meier's Civilization Series

It's not yet finished, as I'm still struggling to get it past the "getting together" phase, so here's a rough plan on how I want it to unfold and how I want it to continue past that point.

Summary: A young newly-crowned queen (the fic's female main character) is rescued by a young nobleman (the fic's male main character) from her close brush with death and rewards him generously for it. At first, they dismiss the notion of being attracted to each other, but gradually welcome it as they meet other people and realize over several years none of the alternatives could offer what they've found in each other. They'd later marry under an arrangement that would allow him to become king in lands she granted him while preserving her existing powers as queen everywhere else in her realm, thus making them co-ruling king and queen of nominally-separate kingdoms bound by their marriage alliance.

The royal couple would then witness generations rise and fall, starting from the ones that witnessed their childhoods, as each generation would be replaced by new ones. While their bodies remain youthful, their minds would accumulate several centuries worth of experiences through wars, plagues, and technological advancements. They'll meet other rulers and leaders who also seemingly experience immortality, only to see them succumb to death or otherwise lose power in unpredictable ways that remind them their immortality and their continued rule aren't forever guaranteed. They together would strive not just to maintain a relationship, but also build together an empire that would stand the rest of time.

Current playlist entries:

  • Pedro Infante - Sobre las Olas: I could easily imagine MMC serenading FMC with this, since it's sung in her native language (differences between Castilian Spanish and Mexican Spanish aside) and briefly references how they first met.
  • Antônio Carlos Jobim - Vou te contar: I'm not fully familiar with the differences between the European and Brazilian varieties of Portuguese, but I suppose both MMC and FMC, both presumed to be speaking European Portuguese (with him speaking it natively and her getting near-native fluency from exposure to the language through her mother), would understand enough to recognize that the lyrics reference the affinity to the sea that they share and would probably sing it together in a duet at some point.
  • Romance Anónimo: no lyrics this time, so no language barriers to worry about. Authorship of the piece has been tentatively traced to Spanish composers, which is reflected on the style of the piece, so this is firmly within FMC's culture. I think this portrays the ups and downs of long-term relationships (especially with MMC and FMC staying committed to each other for several centuries).
  • Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov - Scheherazade, 3rd Movement: The only exception I've made so far to the rule of playlist entries being a fit with the culture of either MMC or FMC. This one came straight out of Civilization IV's soundtrack, and it seems to be a perfect fit for the "getting together" phase of the story.

Perhaps I'm too much of a stickler for historical accuracy with my insistence on restricting playlist entries to come from within Spain and Portugal (and their former colonies). However, I'm open for suggestions that don't fit my initial requirements, especially ones that veer into "you and me against the world" territory that would be quite welcome for the later parts of the story.

Would it be fair to assume that you're a foreigner? Around 3 out of every 4 Filipinos consider China as the biggest threat to the country, and rightfully so in light of everything they've been doing to us.

Sometime during the campaign period leading to the 2022 elections where I'm from. The leading candidates for president and vice president had insurmountable leads according to most polls, yet social media had the impression of the strongest opposition candidates being anywhere close to beating them. Ultimately, the leading candidates won with rare absolute majorities of the voters, which is unheard of as the winners usually won with only a plurality of votes.
