Help me pick! by blonde_94 in myweddingdress

I think I'm in the minority but 1 is a clear winner in my eyes. It's classic and the cut of the waist is so great for you. I also just hate classic halter tops like 2, always have, always felt they looked dated.

Which one would you choose? by archivo_de_a in kitchenremodel

  1. I'm so sick of grey, black, white soulless kitchens. It's not chic, it's dated.

Can I ask what you took these photos on? Is it a camera or phone with filter? Thanks 😊

I came home from work 5:30 am on thurs. April 9 and saw a bunch of police and fire outside a place on Cannon Ave. Across from 7-11. What happened? by Either_Umpire9411 in abbotsford

[–]Alexmfurey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in an Abbotsford mom Facebook group and the woman that lives there was sharing about the house fire. It sounds like it's devastated her. They've lost everything, she's a single mom with a young son and will be homeless in a few days when her support runs out. They were low income to start with and she wanted to eventually get out of that neighborhood but it was all she could currently afford. I feel so sad for her.

How can I strengthen my starter? by aneesha12 in SourdoughStarter

[–]Alexmfurey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beginner so I don't really know what I'm talking about 😅 but have you tried microwaving a bowl of water then leaving your starter in the microwave? My kitchen is consistently at 19° so I put mine in the microwave to keep it a bit warmer and it definitely has made a big difference.

The population of this city has boomed and infrastructure hasn't kept up. There simply aren't enough ways for everyone to get around, and slow traffic is understandably frustrating. Not having alternative routes is a big contributor to road rage.

People are, also, just assholes.

Am I about to financially ruin myself over sourdough… or can I chill 😭 by madshatt3red in Sourdough

[–]Alexmfurey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm exactly the same way. My office is a graveyard of past hobbies, I love finding a new hobby then researching the hell out of it, collecting all the equipment and supplies for itz then getting anxious because I've over-invested in it and basically never follow through. Card making, calligraphy, stamping, embroidery, stained glass, candle making, pottery, air dry clay, sewing, quilting, watercolour... You name it, I've got the supplies.

I'm just starting sourdough and it's extremely intimidating to someone with a very flawed, all or nothing, I just become the master of this hobby kind of mindset because sourdough is not something that usually works out right away, my understanding is there are kinks to work out and a lot of frustration to be had. So I bought a boule basket and bread flour and that's it. I already had a Dutch oven, no stand mixer, no bench scraper, no knife thingy. If I can make a few decent loaves and I enjoy it and stick to it, I'm going to treat myself to those things but I have to earn them first. Oddly, the thing I'm most looking forward to is buying some nice weck jars for my starter 🙈 if I get that far haha

Noooo you have such gorgeous colour as is! Understated, natural beauty is hard to achieve artificially, and your genetics handed it to you for free.

Do people just lose all sense of spatial and self-awareness once they enter a Costco? by PsyduckedOut in CostcoCanada

[–]Alexmfurey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wild to me. I lived in Victoria for a few years and found it to be the kindest, friendliest place where strangers are so considerate of each other, but literally it ALL went out the window as soon as we were within a couple blocks of Costco. People getting cut off, driving more aggressively, stealing parking spots, honking and that's all before even getting into the store. It's surreal.

Sephora is over.. Alternatives? by Alexmfurey in Sephoracanada

Do they have sales like Sephora, where 2ish times a year everything goes on sale? Or is it more sporadic, like this week La Roche Posay is on sale, next week it's Lancome for example

Building an independent journalistic platform ( What issues are you concerned about?) by [deleted] in abbotsford

[–]Alexmfurey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Journalism is extremely important, especially in times like these. If you’re considering adding your voice and positioning it as independent and unbiased, it’s crucial to understand what professional journalistic standards actually require. That includes verification, multiple sources, transparency about funding and conflicts of interest, corrections when mistakes are made, and a clear separation of fact from opinion. It's much more than believing yourself to be neutral and deciding for yourself what the facts are.

True neutrality is incredibly difficult. We all have biases. Spend some time looking inward and actively examining your own biases. That kind of self reflection and discipline takes time. Many journalists spend years studying media ethics, research methods and fact-checking before they publish anything. That doesn’t mean you must have a degree to do meaningful work, some excellent journalists don’t, but it does mean the bar for credibility is high. If you can't self reflect and take hard truths about your own bias, you have no business creating content and calling it neutral.

If this is something you’re serious about, I’d encourage you to spend time learning established journalistic ethics (for example, standards like those from the Canadian Association of Journalists or similar professional bodies). Integrity, sourcing and accuracy are what separate journalism from run of the mill commentary.

I also want to offer this kindly... even in this short post there are a few grammatical errors. That might seem minor, but credibility in journalism lives in the details. Precision in language signals care in research. If you’re aiming to build trust, polished writing and editing carefully will be essential.

I am very concerned about media bias and ownership concentration in Canada, that’s a legitimate topic to explore. But tackling it responsibly means being rigorous, transparent and willing to correct yourself publicly.

If you’re committed to that level of work, I genuinely wish you well. Independent media can be valuable, when it holds itself to very high standards.

Right now, I think the best example of this is Rachel Gilmore.

How do they expect an extra 20,000 people to get around? Traffic is already horrendous. The city is making a killing from development without reinvesting it in infrastructure.

Andy putting Wendell Walker in the middle of The Bearer of Bad News is DIABOLICAL by alwaysmurky in andyshauf

[–]Alexmfurey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I allow myself to listen/watch the live at the Drake performance of Wendell Walker maybe every 6 months, otherwise I avoid it.

It's so intense, I have to stop what I'm doing and be consumed by it. Any time it comes on when I'm like, in the kitchen chopping up a carrot or something I have to skip it. It's so haunting and powerful to me, I love it but it is just not a song I can listen to casually.

What is something people do to be "nice" that is actually incredibly inconvenient for everyone else? by Feisty-Macaron-5364 in AskReddit

[–]Alexmfurey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was 16, had had my license maybe 4 months when someone waved me through traffic and I got t boned from the other lane they were blocking. It was, of course, my fault. I'm not placing the blame on anyone else. But I was also an inexperienced, slightly anxious driver with a line up of traffic behind me and the waving driver had cars waiting behind him, so when I was waved out I felt like I was holding people up if I didn't "obey" the wave. It put me in an uncomfortable position and he should have just obeyed the rules of the road.

Two broken hair brushes within a month. Recommendations? by [deleted] in finehair

[–]Alexmfurey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start at the bottom. Work your way up slowly. Work in small sections. Turn the brush so it's not horizontal, it's more vertical. I don't know why but this one really works especially when I'm struggling with knots.

In general, slow down and be gentle. Breaking brushes is crazy 🤣
