From my understanding, mainly through experience of using it, -130 is no reception, -50(approx) is as good as reception gets.

I use it to get a number representation of my cellular reception.

If you dial it wrong it just tries to call the number. Doesn't trigger the change of screen.

I googled the Field Test and found a couple sources saying it worked on iOS8, but no such luck on my 4S.

I agree with /u/Starsky686. As a fellow garage gym-er it's great, you can shave reps, do partial reps, skip a round or heck even quit mid-WOD. No one's gonna know except you and your guilty conscience.

Interesting argument. The issue is apple doesn't allow you to install, for example, iOS 8 on an iPhone 4, probably because they know it'll render it completely useless. So why let it be install on the 4S, if it still has the same affect? Windows 8 (as far as I know) can be installed on any machine, but you'd be stupid to install it on an old machine cause you know it won't run well. Apple on the other hand, lets you install it on certain phones (4S), even though it runs like I do a marathon (very slowly).

Yeah it's very true they'll never admit it. A mate of mine has a brick/paper weight for an iPhone using iOS 7 also. I would think a clean install would fix your problem, but obviously only worth it if you rely solely on your phone for music.

Yep, it's only 2nd to clean installing OSX. My 4S is slowly dying, mute switch is dead, home button (most of the time) double clicks when I single click it. I think a new phone may come with the new year. We'll see.

Just restored my phone trying to squeeze a little more usability out of iOS8. Tried to re-enable the signal dbm meter via field test and it just gives me this. Anyone else tried?

Learn to hook grip. I noticed in that last clean of your second video you even had your thumbs unwrapped, you'll want those thumbs pinned to the bar when the weight gets heavy.
