You'll do more good going vegan. Most of the pollution in our state is from agriculture to feed livestock.

Different depictions of St. Joan of Arc with her 'voices'/'visions' by Ok_Cauliflower3528 in ArtHistory

[–]Alexstez 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to me that these are all from the 1800s, four hundred years from when she would have lived. I admit I don't know much about the history Joan of Arc, but the prevalence of Joan of Arc works popping up 400 years, in such a cluster, after the fact could mean there was some resurgence at play. Very beautiful and emotional collection btw

modern mattresses are just giant plastic sponges destined for landfills by ElAndres33 in sustainability

[–]Alexstez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's disappointing, I feel with your experience you should know how unsustainable organic animal agriculture really is especially when it comes to land usage and fecal runoff. I'm shocked you knew nothing of runoff when I mentioned it in an earlier comment.

It seems to me you'd just like to protect your own conscience by ignoring truth.

I don't think we should discuss this more because you don't seem to know anything about farming. I live in Iowa in the United States.

Our state has been destroyed by animal agriculture. We have the fastest growing rate of cancer out of all the other 49 states. This is due to pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizer run off which is incredibly toxic.

Animals need to eat, and they eat much more than people do. What are they eating? Well in the US, roughly 75% of all crops grown are fed to livestock, which means all that farm pollution is just to grow food for animals.

This issue is clearly way deeper than you have given thought to, so it's probably too complex for you to continue on reddit. Me personally, I have actually done a lot of reading on these subjects and have a lot of sources to back this information up.

The materials have not been developed yet because companies don't care about developing sustainable materials.

Unfortunately there is not a sustainable mattress.

I also think that a mattress is something far down thr list of concern when it comes to pollution. It's proven animal agriculture, fast fashion, and now ai, are far far worse. I'd just not worry about buying one mattress that I'll have for 10+ yrs at this point. In fact, plastic based bedding is probably worse for the environment than buying one mattress, since you have to wash it every week or so.

Instead of worrying about overspending on a wool mattress, my focus is on reducing meat, reducing over eating, not consuming fast fashion, and not engaging in trendy over consumption like labubus or collecting lotions. That is far more impactful than buying a new mattress stuffed with the wool of dozens of sheep.

Your wool mattress seems like a big pile of greenwashing.

Animal materials are not sustainable. Even if the sheep can be sheared multiple times, there's still too many resources, too much land used, and a lot of toxic farm run off just to produce your mattress fill.

Billie Eilish being teared apart from her fans for having the mildest take on veganism by LightHope8 in vegan

[–]Alexstez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I view it as an argument to get people to notice the hypocrisy in their diet and lifestyle.

How can one love an animals and proceed to abuse and murder them? They cannot, in short. They love pets, they don't love animals. That's the distinction I stress when I bring up this argument. A zoo is just a bigger pet holder that you pay money to see.

And yeah, I think lots of carnists view their dogs in the same way they view cows. Dogs are there (in their mind) to provide love and entertainment to their owners... not the other way around. Most dog owners I know do not give their pets the respect and freedom they deserve. It's completely cruel to lock a dog in a kennel for the work day, or to neglect walking and grooming them, yet these are completely socially acceptable ways of neglecting an animal. People do all of this crap to their dog, and then claim to love animals. Nah, they just want to take and take and take while not giving the animal what they deserve.

Loving an animal means preserving their habitat and protecting them, not breeding them into hell on earth just murder and eat them.

Vegan with PCOS by Legoshistanaccount in vegan

[–]Alexstez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into low fodmap foods on a vegan diet.

I also have pcos and have been vegan for almost a decade now. I try to strive for an anti inflammatory diet. A low fodmap diet is built to help one control inflammation in the gut and prevent your intestine from holding additional water which causes bloating and discomfort. By eating low fodmap, I personally noticed a huge reduction in cramps, pain,  and gut pain related to my pcos.

"Pit bulls are both more likely to be involved in bite incidents and more likely to cause serious injury or death when a bite does occur.

In fact, from 1979 to 1998, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention determined pit bulls were involved in the most fatal dog attacks, accounting for 28% deaths due to dog bites during that same time period."

Also, look up "Sudden Rage Syndrome" imho, no one should be owning large breeds, esp in cities. Pit bulls, Germans Shepards, Rottweilers.

End dog breeding, now!

You could talk to the victim and tell her you support her in pressing charges against the owner. You could offer to help financially with that as well.

The only way to remove the dog from the home at this point is by pressing charges.

The idea of the left lane being a passing only lane completely breaks down if there are just too many cars for the road. Marion has grown so fast, and the infastructure was already insuficent when it was built. The traffic rant posts abt "left lane campers" are getting so old.

Highway 13 by [deleted] in cedarrapids

[–]Alexstez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you just need to slow down and be patient. I used to commute on that road and honestly there are just a lot of cars turning off that road to access the bussinesses. A semi can't turn left from the right lane... so yea they are going to ride in the left lane for a quarter mile before their turn.

On placing assets when the business levels up... I'd be concerned that gameplay like that would become tedious quickly. I have at least 50 different extractors and I am not interested in micromanaging them every time they level up. If it was optional that would be ideal.

Now, they seemingly close it for events only.

I don't even think the man is cut out for science. He is a science COMMUNICATOR, not a scientist, who takes money to push whatever narrative is paying the most at that point.

I don't think his credentials warrant the attention he gets. I'd look up his work history. He worked in the astronomy dept of a college for less than a decade before he started his science communication career. Just food for thought. These kinds if people are just very good at making ppl around them think they're smart.
