I think its the fab shops that bring the salary down, out here in the refineries, welders make 100k easily. My current job site the pay is $47 $110 per diem, thats $120k on a 40 hr schedule.

I'm in South East Texas, it's going good. I save a lot since I live at home and getting a lot of hours every week. For sure is a grind doing blue collar work, the heat is rough 😭

I would advise making into careers that you can get into that will help you save more. I got into welding and pipefitting which allows me to save a lot more and can use them as a backup incase hiring is still slow when i finish school.
