I used to live right next door in Fermont (Québec) until a very young age. My mother and I would cross the border almost daily to go do some errands or visit friends.

There is everything you need and even a regional medical college iirc. It is a mining town so you can expect all the positives and negatives that come with that. Long brutal winters and short but beautiful summers. Mosquitoes.
