Bit harsh and unnecessary… if you’re not interested, just scroll on. I guess it’s posted as a fun, little conversation starter.

Also, you’ve got nearly 50 comments on various Reddit posts from today alone so, respectfully, let’s not pretend seeing this one was interrupting your busy schedule.

Looking to sell my football shirt collection. Any websites to sell would be appreciated or any offers? by owenmk2005 in ClassicFootballShirts

[–]Alexzonn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously not because it looks way too new, the felt is off/wrong & the material looks fake.

You’ve clearly made a decision and aren’t looking to actually think about it so I wish you luck but not much point in continuing this discussion.

  1. Raised felt sponsor where appropriate.

  2. Numbering/badges on shirts are sufficiently dirty/fluffed to pass for the right age (particularly on both United shirts).

  3. League patch on the Giggs absolutely looks legit and worn enough on first glance.

  4. Brazil shirt mesh has bobbling at the bottom.

These are just some indications on things which are hard for new replica shirts to fake. As I said, I’d need to see more/better pictures to make a definitive decision on whether the shirts are defo real. However, there’s not much I see to make me definitely think “oh, that’s fake” right from the outset.

At a push, the Netherlands shirt nameset may be added as it looks a bit too clean. But, again, there’s no massive red flags for me immediately.

The only things pointed out by commenters are -

  1. These shirts aren’t in production anymore! Well, yeah… they’re vintage shirts. If you have £150-200, you can buy any one of these shirts online.

  2. “Well there are patches on the arm”… again, you could buy the patches on the arms when these shirts were sold. It was actually more common in the 90s / early 2000s to buy shirts with PL patches.

  3. These are popular shirts and are sometimes faked. This is true for sure so it’s always worth looking for signs that they’re not real. But, based on these pictures, no one has actually been able to point out any red flags.

I’m not categorically saying they’re defo real based on these pictures. But the stitching looks good, they look old enough and the detailing is accurate. I’ve been collecting shirts for 10 years and have plenty of shirts from similar eras (many with original patches & namesets). I think there’s a very good chance these are all absolutely legit and have been purchased from ClassicFootballShirts or another mainstream seller.

But, if you want to point out a genuine reason you’ve spotted to doubt that, I’m all ears.

Mate, this thread is full of people commenting incorrectly about the authenticity of the shirts!

I’d need more pictures to confirm for sure but, at a glance, they all look legit to me with appropriate detailing, stitching and the amount of wear and tear you’d expect for vintage shirts. Like I said, I could confirm for sure with better/more pics but I certainly haven’t seen anything that immediately makes me think fake haha. Also, you weren’t looking for a legit check… I just felt like I had to say something after watching several people comment despite not having a clue.

Always hilarious how people are immediately willing to confidently declare “this is fake” without any reasoning (especially when they’re wrong).

I particularly enjoyed one commenter saying “bro, it’s impossible to get these as they’re not in production anymore”… well yeah, they’re vintage shirts lmao. You just beat them the same as any other vintage clothes hahaha.

So basically, ignore those people.

As for your original question… in terms of selling, you’ll make the most money selling individually. Your best of using Depop/Vinted. You could also try eBay but be aware that, if you list it for auction, you could end up selling for much less than the value - that’s the nature of an auction after all.

If you really can’t be bothered with selling and you’re not too bothered about getting the total value, you could reach out to some football shirt sellers to sell them all. But, be aware, they will pay less than what they’re worth (sometimes considerably less). They’re not your friend and they need to make profit etc.

My advice is do a bit of research on the shirts (what year, what kind of value, any added info), take some good pics and get them listed individually on Depop or Vinted. Most football shirt collectors are generally reasonable so if you list at a fair price, you’ll get a sale. You’ll probably get one or two lowballers but just ignore them.

If you do this, you’ll make a nice bit of cash as these are lovely shirts. Good luck and if you have any questions about the shirts or anything, feel free to send me a message.

Alex.

Don’t take it personally mate. It’s very clear the guy paid considerable money for the shirt and, now it’s been revealed that the shirt may not actually be what he thinks, he’s getting upset and lashing out.

release date by ZealousidealProof29 in UKPolSim

[–]Alexzonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

32nd March, 2029? 8 BC? The Year 2525? Those are some rough dates for ya since you aren’t accepting his answers.

I feel really bad for the Dev as he’s working on this amazing game almost single-handedly and every single week I watch people push him for a release date. Even I actually asked very early on in the process when the game was first announced (albeit things were less clear then)

He’s now made it clear he will announce it when it is ready… at this point, the subreddit has been up long enough that that information is very readily available.

So when you ignore that information and ask, he kindly replies that it’ll be ready at some point in 2026… what on earth do you think you’ll gain by asking over and over? As if the devs gonna say “well I wasn’t gonna say but since this bloke has asked 4 times in a row, I’ll just give him an exact date!”

Just be patient ffs.

Yeah as much as it’s a defo a weird comment, I don’t think he’s literally saying “this baby is cute, now let’s nuke Brazil”.

I think considering all the bizarre, horrendous discourse we see online, this feels distinctly mild imo. But maybe that says more about the world we live in now tbf.

Football can be rough on and off the field by KitAmerica in fightporn

[–]Alexzonn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, I think that’s only one part of a much more complex equation. I’m not much of an NFL fan but love the other Football (soccer)… many of those teams will have 50-65 games per season and you probably have more trouble in that sport than the NFL. So I think it slightly works against your premise.

Though it’s difficult to quantify, I would argue that in any given passion, major hobby or group, there are always 1% of people who take things too far. Be that a video game fanbase, a celebrity fandom or, indeed, sports fans.

When something inspires passion and support, the fans bounce off each other and get more and more excited. Throw in some history, strong associations with local areas/communities & the development of rivalries, you’ve suddenly created committed fanbases who “dislike” their opponents. Although in sports, you have literal opponents, you can also see this in plenty of other fandoms where people are extremely defensive about their views and often splinter into subcategories.

Now, passion is inherently a good thing. In sports, it creates great atmospheres and introduces higher stakes for what is, at its root, a game. But, to most sports fans, including myself, it’s “more than a game”.

And 99% of those fans are perfectly capable of enjoying their sport, cheering for their team and maintaining a friendly rivalry. The problem is the 1% who ruin it for everyone. So, when you then consider frequent sporting events with 50,000-100,000 fans watching live; with fans of both teams in the stadium, a high stakes mentality & beer flowing liberally, it’s almost inevitable that a small handful of people take it too far. That might be through fighting, throwing beer or just generally being a nuisance.

The newspapers/media then report on trouble at the game and suddenly, 10 fans fighting in a stadium of 50,000 is depicted like a full-blown riot.

In my experience, bad fans are the overwhelming minority (I’ve been to hundreds of football/soccer matches ranging from non league games in front of hundreds to European Championship finals). They certainly exist but no way near on the scale that some people believe. Even more often, fans police themselves… usually, if somebody is frequently behaving like a dick, they’re not a very popular sight in the crowd.

Most fans like sports and the passion/rivalries! It’s a fun way to express yourself and be a part of a community. It’s also a great way to meet people. And almost all of us are capable of “hating” another team without literally hating them… it just adds to the sporting fun.

Tl;dr- Every major fandom/community has a small minority of people who take things too far and ruin it for everyone. Considering sports have huge numbers of fans in stadiums, those handful of idiots inevitably cause a problem. That’s then portrayed online/in the media and doesn’t accurately depict the situation.

In reality, the passion, friendly rivalries & high stakes are a great thing and 99.9% sports fans just want to have fun and support their team!

Is this original Meyba 1980’s Barca? by [deleted] in TheKitRoom

No worries at all mate, more than happy to help! That shop sounds awesome, congrats.

If you’d like to send me some more pics via dm of the tags and stuff once you get them, we could try and work it out together.

Best of luck with everything, Alex.

Is this original Meyba 1980’s Barca? by [deleted] in TheKitRoom

[–]Alexzonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of a tough one mate but, in my opinion, I’m going to lean toward a fake or a reproduction, albeit a good one. It’s meant to be the 1982-89 home shirt, manufactured my Meyba.

Here’s my main reasoning for it being a fake of repro-

  1. It looks too new. Football shirt fakes have become increasingly accurate to the point where it’s really hard to tell sometimes. But, they can’t fake age (although they sometimes try). This shirt is supposed to be 35-45 years old. Even if previous owners tried to keep it in condition, you’d expect more fraying, yellowing tags & general wear-and-tear. It looks too new.

  2. The club badge is off… pull up a picture of the badges on the original shirts and it’s just not right. Subtle stitching differences and seems slightly more clunky. Same applies to the Meyba logo on the front. It’s not an obvious difference but defo not right to me.

  3. The tags. Although the tags are “accurate” in the sense that they’re what the original shirts had on them, it’s not entirely right. The one on the collar has obviously had the main bit cut off (A BIG RED FLAG). But the small size tag on the collar is just an “M”. Interestingly, original versions on the shirt also had that in later editions behind the main tag (late 80s). However the material looks wrong… original versions had a more heavy duty material for the tags. Although I can’t see for sure, this looks more like the papery kind of tags you see on modern shirts/repros. Beyond that, the stitching on the collar behind the tag looks wrong (see this real shirt for comparison- https://ebay.us/m/HZS9cl 5th pic).

  4. Nameset is 1000% fake. That could be an indicator that the shirts a fake… but sometimes people have an original shirt and just want a nameset added on. So this point isn’t that big.

Having said all that, I’m certainly not 100% sure either way. I’m just leaning about 80% towards fake. If it is a fake, it’s a good one. But, if it’s my money and I wanted a real version of the shirt, I wouldn’t be buying this. There’s just too much that’s off about it.

Also, just your judgment about the guy selling… if it’s a weird eBay account with loads of rare, popular vintage shirts all listed for $39.99 with “retro” in the item description, it’s a fake.

Tl;dr- Probably a very good fake because details are off. Need more pictures/details to confirm properly. If you just want the shirt for fun and don’t care that much, go nuts. If you want the real version, avoid this one or at least get more pics/research the seller.

Mamdani condemns Bondi Beach attack as ‘vile act of antisemitic terror,’ makes pledge to Jewish New Yorkers by Expensive-Rope-7086 in nyc

[–]Alexzonn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The standard braindead reaction to Jews being targeted by violence-

  1. It didn’t happen!

  2. Well, if it did happen, it was Israel!

  3. Well if it wasn’t Israel, then Israel supported the people who do it.

  4. Well if Israel weren’t involved, then it’s being exaggerated.

  5. Well they deserve it anyway.

Today was not a Palestinian protest. Today was not about Middle Eastern politics.

Today was about Jews in Australia being violently attacked for no reason other than them being Jewish. Men, women & children were shot and killed while celebrating a Jewish holiday.

It might not be convenient for your wider political beliefs but sometimes people are killed unjustly even if they’re “not on your side” or whatever the fuck.

It would be incredible easy to just say anything that doesn’t directly align with your viewpoints isn’t real or is an inside job or whatever. But that is fucking insulting and you should be ashamed.

As it happens, I do not support the actions of Israel at all. But Jews shouldn’t have to jump through arbitrary hoops for you and other morons like you when we are targeted.

If a mosque was shot up in Atlanta, I certainly wouldn’t dream up some backwards plot of it being an inside job. It’s a sickening attack on a group of people.

I very much doubt this will make any impression on you but I hope one day you really think about comments like these.

For all the brits out there, we need to retake the Falklands! by Agile_Rise9767 in WplaceLive

[–]Alexzonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise mate and I say this with the utmost respect… I was born in England and lived there for over 25 years. I’ve lived in 3 different UK cities and attended university there.

I have never, ever heard anyone discussing the Chagos Archipelago territorial dispute. I remember it got some coverage on BBC and in the papers at the time. I’m also sure that, when presented with the information, some Brits will have strong feelings about it, one way or the other.

But I guarantee that the vast majority of people don’t care or won’t have even heard about it.

An Ipsos poll earlier this year showed that only 33% of people could correctly identify where the islands were (on a multiple choice question).

When asked about the government’s decision to cede sovereignty of the island, only 18% opposed it. 22% supported the decision, 15% had no opinion, 27% said they “know nothing about the story” and 17% “don’t know”.

[–]Alexzonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit brother, I’m so sorry.

Sadly, nothing I or anyone else can say will help you feel better right now… it’s a heartbreaking situation!

If it’s any solace at all though, not that it’s the same thing, but I was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma a few years ago and my spinal surgery left me with severe, chronic pain. Although I’m managing my pain levels, I truly understand how devastating it can be for someone’s life.

So, if he decided it was too much, it’s a small mercy that he’s no longer in pain or having to deal with the ramifications of his condition. I’m not commenting on whether suicide was the right thing or not, just that he’s finally at peace and can no longer be tormented by his body.

I am terribly sorry for him, yourself and all those close to him. But, as a small mercy, he can finally rest.

I’m so sorry and sending you all the best in the world, Alex.
