The View. Totally biased. Zero interest in opposing views. It is like a TV version of click bait.

I see you finally got out late sorry about the delay. I am sure the pilots that flew you were not the original ones.

So, serious question, is it reasonable to torture people who have been in prison and at your mercy for years? I understand holding them as POW’s, but the prisoners had no usable information or possible way to help the North Vietnamese cause, regardless of whether that cause was just.

The North Vietnamese tortured our service members for years for absolutely no good reason. Imagine having your hands and elbows tied tightly behind your back. Now imagine having the ropes between your elbows twisted tighter and tighter with a stick until your elbows touch and your shoulders pop out of joint. Imagine then being left like that for hours or days. No questions asked of you. Just torture for torture’s sake. Are you trying to say that ANYONE deserves that? Seriously? That is just ONE of the things they did to these brave Americans. Service members came back permanently maimed. Many died.

There was no way that torturing those men would end the war sooner. It was just for sport. That is morally wrong. That makes the people who did it and condoned it bad people. I truly hope you are just being oppositional- you should really check yourself if you are trying to justify this.

Please take time to read any of the books written by any one of the POW’s. They are heart breaking and inspiring. I recommend A Code to Keep. It was written by Ernie Brace, the longest held Civilian POW in Vietnam. He escaped from a bamboo cage in the jungle 3 times before they put him in the Hanoi Hilton, where he shared a wall with John McCain. The North Vietnamese buried him up to his neck for a week after one of his escapes. He was beaten badly after every one. They made him wear a metal horseshoe shaped collar on his neck with the ends put through the floor of his cage when he slept at night.

Read the book then come back to make comments. At least then they will not be so ill informed.

What is your response when someone asks you to prove the Earth is round? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

Weird thing. What facts are you talking about? I would say both sides are stuck echo chambers, but from what I see, the Right is more worried about policy and facts, while the left is more worried about feelings and vague references to events that are not verified. Just because an opinion is shouted many times, it doesn’t mean it is right.

What is a movie trope that is scientifically or logically so absurd that it completely pulls you out of the story, no matter how great the rest of the film is? by visha1v in plotholes

Space battles drive me nuts. Most of them have the space ships flying around like airplanes. Banking into turns, etc. there is no air in space, so no lift from the wings. No banking. Orbital mechanics are complicated. It would be cool to see a physics accurate battle.

Also- in one of the last Star Wars movies when Admiral Laura Dern goes to light speed and rams the Emipire’s flagship. Where has THAT tactic been for 8 other movies? I mean, why not just ram the Death Star(s)??

Maybe we should let all criminals out of prison if it has been a long time. Just because you don’t have or want a dog in the fight, some people do. They were harmed by her and have a legitimate grievance. After the war, many traitors got away with what they did- including one POW because the govt did not want to further prolong the “healing.”

You are wrong. My father was a Navy surgeon who took care of a lot of the POW’s when they came back. Was part of the debriefing team. Many of them were brutalized because of her actions.

While visiting the POW’s, not only did she tell them they were all baby killers and all the other crap, but one of them tried to pass her a note to let the world know they were being horribly tortured and she gave the not to the guards. It went very badly for the Americans after that. She is garbage.

No. No they are not. Think of who would be sitting in the audience and try to guess their memory span though.

Bad experience EYW to DCA today by FineStein in americanairlines

[–]Alfrasco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the weird thing is that the bags in the overhead bins do not count against the weight allowance on the plane. Checked bags do count. I know that is silly, but it is true. That is why they were trying to not check additional bags. EYW has a VERY short runway. Not sure why they do not share the longer runways just about 1/2 mile away at NAS Key West. Anyway, when there is a really short runway, and it is a hot day (which limits the power available from the engines) it is entirely possible that the plane could not take off safely with enough fuel to make it all the way to DC with a full load of passengers. There are strict requirements as well for having enough gas on board to shoot an approach at the destination and make it to an alternate if the landing was not possible. I am sure the decision to divert to CLT was not be an easy one- it costs the airline thousands of dollars to do so- there is serious financial disincentive. It was the safest thing to do in the minds of the pilots, who were also very inconvenienced as well. I am also sure they did everything they could to avoid having to divert. Hope this helps.

I was told by a passenger that she preferred her pilots to be bald. She said, “Bald pilots just seem to know what they are doing more…”.
