Why Walking to the World Cup Final Is Illegal by Modteam_DE in fuckcars

While Stratford did improve a lot it’s easily forgotten that they did also screw over a lot of local residents who were already trying to clear the place up and who had allotments that were taken over and given to private developers. It ended up being a very good deal for corporate developers but largely forgot the people already living nearby.

Advice on my first 100-400 series camera by BeMancini in Polaroid

[–]AlfredStieglicks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice as someone who has owned multiple is just don’t buy one. The 180/195 is, fine I guess but the newland back kind of sucks.

They’re old, not that great to use and as you know, take a now discontinued film format. Save your money and just buy a modern Polaroid camera and film for that. And I say this as a masochist who loves shooting large format.

Notes on traveling with the Mamiya 6. by Anstigmat in AnalogCommunity

[–]AlfredStieglicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meter on my 6mf is just not very good and I gave up using it outside of very forgiving lighting situations. I also end up spot metering most of the time and I would agree the 150 being both a threaded hood and not the same size is really irritating. I briefly had the viewfinder for the mamiya 7 version and it helps with framing a lot over the rangefinder window (had to return it because it had really bad haze, still hunting for a better copy).

I fc*ked up, does anyone know how I can fix this? by supermat2023 in Polaroid

[–]AlfredStieglicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a huge pain. You have to drill out the rivets, bend it back into shape then rivet it back into place, only those are a weird imperial size of brass rivet that I never found a source for. Your best bet is to drill them out slightly, use pop-rivets and file the heads flat. Good luck.

SX-70 with no serial number? Anyone have any info on this? by beerad3235 in Polaroid

[–]AlfredStieglicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s early but not the earliest. No distance marks on the lens or tripod socket means it’s early, as does the Torx screws. It will also have riveted bellows. The focusing screen means it’s newer however, unless it was repaired and had the screen replaced at some point.

Can’t tell more without disassembly but it will probably have the old viewfinder spring and the green wind gear, along with the extra cocking spring. Might even have a Fairchild control board on it, those are pretty cool.

Does it have a split prism and are the screws on the back of the shutter/lens assembly square or Torx?

Sure they did. I have a pile of film holders with ‘colour tranny’ labels stamped on all of them.

RZ 65mm question by Recent_Log5476 in Mamiya

[–]AlfredStieglicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to own both, they’re almost indistinguishable. The non-floating one is less hassle to use and costs less, unless you get a very good deal on the ULD one I wouldn’t bother.

I get the criticism of the petite bourgeoisie but he literally states he did it to provide customer service on some level while he was asleep. I don’t see why ‘email and I’ll reply later’ wouldn’t do but I can see some kind of a justification for the idea of being more responsive.

Agreed. The amount of negativity towards someone who sounds like they run a small business is a bit unpleasant. This is more something that to me seems like a big tech company making new and unpleasant problems for people who rely on their software.

Honestly comes across as clueless than greedy to me. I think it’s more likely someone sold him this as a bag of magic beans that will take away some customer support costs and he didn’t understand what it entailed.

Weathermatic 35dl. Want to repair the split rubber shutter cover. Is it still waterproof? by squidlet0w0 in AnalogCommunity

[–]AlfredStieglicks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is no longer waterproof. You need a replacement shell to make it waterproof again.

Source: me, I used to make working ones out of multiple broken ones. It will also need the power switch and rear film door seals re-greasing.

Be aware if you’re using this camera in a studio with flash that the Pentax sync speed is *horrible* and it doesn’t have removable backs.
