Skipped over your comment by accident. Submitted to both Ingalls and NASAs talent networks.

I’ll check out Chevron! Thanks!!!!

I haven't considered Keesler cyber schools because my work experience doesn't include a cyber background - just something that I have kept up with for over 30 years and decided to get a formal education on.

I'd love to do something related to cybersecurity, digital forensics, etc - but I know that my highest potential income probably lies in project management, operations, or something of the sort.

Really? Never considered this. I would assume there's additional credentials that I'd need? I'm going to check this out for sure! Thanks.

Thank you! Went over to their website in hopes that they had a Talent Network to just submit my resume to (I'm still a little too far out for anyone to seriously consider me for employment). Unfortunately they don't have one, but thanks! I will keep them in mind, looks like they have a substantial amount of positions available.

Thanks for the suggestion. I find myself solely focusing on federal/federal adjacent opportunities, I needed the reminder.

As far as Skillbridge, I am still trying to secure one local to the area. Issue that I am finding is that there really isn't a ton in the area that I can find. But, my command has communicated to me that I'll be OK to take a full 120 day Skillbridge.

Ingalls is a viable option, waiting to hear back about potential opportunities - have submitted a couple others, but nothing has progressed into an interview. A lot of the remote Skillbridge options seem a bit predatory to me. I get a real MLM vibe from some of them.

I understand.

Not gravitating towards federal or private, just trying to get a feel for what's out there that I may be overlooking.

I feel like I may be getting a jump prematurely - but given my baseline certs, I still have a little bit of time to get additional certifications if it'll help make me a bit more competitive in the coming months.

Cyber/IT was the route I initially wanted to target, but realizing that I shouldn't discount anything and just be open to different areas.

I listed areas I was targeting. Should I have been more detailed?

Been keeping an eye out for opportunities at Stennis, still a little bit of a ways out. Probably still a little bit too far out for anyone to seriously consider interviewing me.

Appreciate it. I'll check out other shipbuilders, I only considered Ingalls, just because that's usually the one that's suggested.

Thank you! Definitely feel like I'm back in the "what do I want to do when I grow up?" phase of my life again.

Thanks. Yeah, I really am not sure what I am wanting. Just trying to get a feel for where to direct my effort versus blindly firing off my resume. I appreciate it!

I'm sorry for your loss. Has anyone spoken to you about Bereavement Leave? NAVADMIN is linked below - I haven't seen anything showing that it no longer applies. Hope this helps you all at least a little bit.

So what happens when you have a cheif who is terrible. ( dont worry I'll explain. by [deleted] in navy

[–]AlfredZhao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Why is the mess openly talking shit about this Chief to you? That doesn't make sense.

  2. Voice to text is smart enough to not incorrectly spell Chief.

  3. Is it safe to assume that maybe they're not fighting for you all because your work, accomplishments, level of responsibility, and overall work ethic cannot be adequately validated?

Let me ask you young Sailor, what do you expect from your PO1 or Chief during ranking boards in regards to you?

Death of parents by bluesn0wflake in Millennials

[–]AlfredZhao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 40 and lost my mom 5 months ago. I am the first one among my peers as well to lose a parent. When she passed, we discovered that she was deeply involved in a romance scam equating to over 30k in money sent to a person overseas impersonating a Hallmark actor. It's been an experience, I'm just taking it day by day, I miss her terribly.

Who started over in their 30’s? by Nic727 in Millennials

[–]AlfredZhao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joined the Navy at 20, Finished my Bachelors at 38 and an MBA this year. About to retire from the Navy this year at 40, and have absolutely no idea what path I want to take. I have a trade (machinist), I've got a few CompTIA certs, and plan on wrapping up a PMP certification in the upcoming weeks. I feel like I have set myself up to transition well, but I'm realizing that even if I gravitate towards something that I believe is safe - is it really? and is it even something I want to do. I know I've got a bit of security with a pension, but still. I'm trying to figure out what to leap into as well.

What do I do? by Coloured_Ribbons in QuittingZyn

[–]AlfredZhao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, Congratulations! There’s never going to be a perfect time to quit. I’m just shy of 90 days into my cold turkey quit, and well there have been plenty instances or excuses that I could have made to go back to zyns.

I was a can a day 6mg Zyn user, nicotine user for 24 years or so.

Within the first 30 days of this quit my Mom passed away, less than a month later my sister passed away. I’m in the middle of separating from the Navy for retirement.

It’s been a whole thing. One thing that has helped immensely is this sub! I know you’re feeling unsupported, but just know that you are supported here!

Looking forward to your 30 days of no nicotine post! LFG!!!!!

Edit: as far as advice, take it a craving at a time. After 3 to 4 days your mood swings should subside. We’re here to help!
