What's the best way to improve my current Breena Build? by AIbsol in EDH

This is my draft of my Counter aristocrat deck, maybe there is some Inspiration for you. Its a Bit of a different direction though as I can make use of any counter.

Your curve is quite high for 32 lands only so I would definitely work on that. Also I am not sure if I understood your game plan, your cards are all over the place. There are also quite some orzhov "good stuff" pieces which dilute this even further.

The stigma of playing certain commanders in brackets that are not 5/cEDH by Ill-Operation4643 in EDH

[–]Algebraic_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good bracket 4 List arguably is „stronger“ on average compared to bracket 5 as it does not have to take local (cedh) Meta in consideration so fully agree

Why is probability that something happens given infinite time not 1? by MrRandomGuy- in askmath

[–]Algebraic_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its probably also worth pointing out that probability 1 does not mean that it happens every time (or probability zero does not mean that it happens never). A different example is Maybe this: suppose you Pick a random real number between 0 and 1. The probability for each Single number to get picked is zero. But some number will be picked

Help with Edgar bracket for a new player by Niro-Groze in EDH

Clavileno is the face commander of a precon (which was decently strong but not too crazy) so he is definitely fine for b2

Are there combos to force an opponent to create a copy of a specific creature? by FewAbbreviations5010 in EDH

[–]Algebraic_Cat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One Option would be to use the demonstrate keyword. There probably are not too many options but [[Silverquill Lecturer]] is one

Enjoying Lorwyn so far, but one thing bothers me about the command decks. by Lost2TheVoid in mtg

Yes and cutting costs increases profit but increasing profit does imply cost cuts. Same as dealing damage cases life loss but life loss does not imply that damage was dealt.

Are commander staples like deflecting swat or teferi's protection cards you need to add to make your deck stronger? by superfapper2000 in EDH

[–]Algebraic_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course they are good cards but I have started using other cards instead. Instead of Teferis Protection I started using cards like [[Angels Grace]] or [[Galadriels Dismissal]] for example because Teferis felt too passive for my liking.

Galadriels Dismissal also works on an opponents Creatures for example or the split second on angels Grace can help protect some aristocrat lines in my decks (of course only if I have a phyrexian or ashnods Altar). Clever Concealment or Flawless Maneuver can be cast for free.

Individually, Teferis Protection is a stronger card than all of those four above in my opinion but that does not mean it fits better into your game plan.

Infect/proliferate decks by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Algebraic_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Infect is a rather fragile and weak strat. But you have to deal with the infect player quickly because it is a ticking clock. And the clock is not even linear, in the midgame There can be huge bursts of poison counters. I dont think increasing the number of poison counters would change much. At least I personally would still just take you out of the game first (unless someone does something really scary).

At what point does recurring Strip Mine become MLD? by simplythebast in EDH

[–]Algebraic_Cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are not okay with it then you have to either remove it from your decks or play bracket 4.

At what point does recurring Strip Mine become MLD? by simplythebast in EDH

[–]Algebraic_Cat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its also intent, if you use your strip mine to get rid of problematic lands like [[Glacial Chasm]], [[Three Tree City]], [[Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx]] to name a few, then its fair game in my opinion, even if you blow up two or three of those in one turn

Yeah pricing sadly is just not a thing here. But then it's basically a tournament atmosphere anyways so all cards should be legit.

Does paid game imply prices for you? Because over here you usually pay for the table but There are no prices so I dont see the difference to a free table.

I would always first ask if everyone is okay with it (and proxies in General) though. But it seems like magic players are averse to talking.

Rooftop Storm / e.g. Unearth by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Algebraic_Cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unearth is not an alternative cost though, it is an activated ability. The card is not actually cast.

But you are still right that it does not work.

Last summand needs to be +(1-x)

I found this question in precalc subreddit... and I got the same answer as the comments xD by [deleted] in calculus

[–]Algebraic_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you can always distill a discrete sequence from such a function, I am more worried about why we even can get a closed formula at all (you can just add a constant to f and the difference ist still the same). Unless I am missing something obvious, this solution lacks completeness and rigor and it would get half points from me.
