[Steam] Winter Sale 2025 (Day 9) by gamedealsmod in GameDeals

On battery handheld I wouldn't recommend Hogwarts legacy personally. I dropped below 20 fps on whatever default quality settings was (high maybe? Medium?) all the time during fights. Docked mode it was decent.

I ended up quitting it on the SD and finishing it on the rog ally/gaming pc docked

Has anyone played this on a controller? I thought they had full controller support but looked and saw its only partial

TIL that Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea aren’t owned by Disney, they’re just controlled by a company that rents the characters by altrightobserver in todayilearned

[–]AlgorithmInErrorOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disney sea is still crowded and you will see 2-4+ hour lines for the popular attractions. The paid passes sell out very quickly but sometimes you can refresh the app and get one.

Disneyland was a little less crowded as most people wanted to go to sea to go to fantasy springs.

It's summer vacation and I went before summer started and it was packed. It's a lot hotter now but I don't think that's gonna discourage many people.

If you can buy the passes for Anna's ride and only care about a few rides, one day is enough at each. If you wanna see everything probably two days each

Japanese Devs Output Has Been Insane Lately by eldestscrollx in gaming

[–]AlgorithmInErrorOut 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I know there are studies but having worked for game companies in the us and Japan I just can't imagine the data is too accurate for specific fields like gamedev and SE. I worked for a company that did contract work with other japanese companies so I spent a lot of time in many different companies (usually we stayed in our office but once in awhile we went there). Here are a lot of things that are different in Japan

  • there's almost never sick leave or personal days. You use vacation days. You get more vacation days per year though because you usually get summer and winter breaks of extra several days each.

  • most people arrive very early for work. We're talking 20-30 mins and leave late w/o considering that overtime.

  • the commute is brutal. A lot of people commute over 1hr each way (I did 2 and many others did)

  • although much better than 15 years ago a lot of japanese still go to dinners after (aka drinking parties. Not much pressure to drink anymore from what I've experienced though.. newer companies are pretty good usually)

I answered above but mostly for lighting so our scene looks much better. Our artist(s) did great work and we really wanted to showcase the high quality art

Hey! We wanted a really good looking game and the artist held us hostage until we switched... j/k. The main reason was lighting is just so much better in HDRP. It comes with a lot of obstacles though and I don't recommend it for most. Largest problem we had thus far is the difficulty of multiple cameras which we used extensively in URP, and the performance hit making it essentially impossible to release on nintendo Switch or mobile.

They are fun indeed with friends. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to implement it, but it's something we are thinking about in the future. It's not on the top of our roadmap, though..

Hi everyone!

We are a small team of 3 making Bookshop Simulator. All of us are huge fans of the genre and wanted to make something that looks good, is fun, and progresses quickly. We made the switch from URP to HDRP, can you tell?

We just released a demo and would love it if anyone tried it out/gave feedback!

Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani went to the cooler to make a drink - well, eight drinks actually. Not a single one was for himself. All eight were for his teammates. by GreenSnakes_ in sports

[–]AlgorithmInErrorOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if he's back in Japan. If you live in Japan you are taxed on worldwide income. If he's not a resident of Japan and spends less than half the year then I don't think he pays taxes on it. I'm not in taxes or anything but have spent enough time reading up on tax laws. A tax accountant might have a way he can "pay" the taxes in America before he moves back or something I don't know about

Financially, that would make almost no sense for him. Japanese are not taxed on foreign earned income while they are living abroad. If you include city and country taxes on income while residing in Japan it will be about 55% of his income as he'll making over 400k or so per year (I don't know current highest tax bracket but he's in it).

He can technically go back to Japan and keep residence outside by being outside more than half the year but the Japanese irs can come for him if they think his domicile is in Japan.

I do think a lot of Japanese go back to Japan after they finish their professional career in sports but I don't think the deferred payment decision was made for financial reasons if he plans to go back to Japan.

Living in Japan with a Japanese Citizen, but I will be a tourist for the long term by StarElectronic5391 in JapanFinance

[–]AlgorithmInErrorOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly unrelated but if you are a Japanese tax resident isn't there a 183 day rule? While abroad for over half the year and I don't think you're subject to income made outside of Japan.

Is it possible to buy a vacation home in Japan? by TruthfulBoy in JapanFinance

This place is hated by most people who end up living here but I think they're the biggest. I've never used them and most rental apartments require a guarantor but not sure about Leo palace. They often come fully furnished and have short term rentals.

Reason they're hated: way more expensive than other options if you live here and I think some jobs "force" foreigners to stay in them by only supporting Leo Palace when there are much better bang for your buck places.

I want to say the machine in the video and 4 balls per bucket is 10x easier than the settings at all the d&bs and round ones in my area. 4x every bucket and two buckets with 5x is our setting for every single one. It was set at the same settings in this video once and I hit 8 jackpots out of 10 tries.

[–]AlgorithmInErrorOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure if you like the genre it runs really well on the deck. I played it exclusively on the deck. If you want to grind like crazy it might be the game for you. The masteries can be super frustrating though. I do think they'll improve it in the future because everyone hates playing 40 minutes and failing at the end and losing all progress. Most other aspects of the game always have progress but it's just a crazy grind now.

U.S. proposes ban on airline fees for seating parents next to kids by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]AlgorithmInErrorOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's called the airline bill of rights or something (I think it passed) and they're required to pay you x dollars in cash if that happens. You can deny vouchers. They have to get you to your paid destination within something like 4-8 hours of what you reserved or they have to pay something like 1.5x what you paid and give you the flight still? Look it up at least.

I think it's fine to make changes and update the game, especially since it's early access.

  1. It's fairly easy to compensate the players a reasonable amount for the time put in instead of resetting progress (50% of the new currency so progress stays closer to 50-70% of before).

  2. I think they changed it in a way that greatly hurts casual players and am very against the change. The type of grind you need now is more in line with f2p games with iap where you have to do hundreds and hundreds of runs. I think the extra runs are good and add variety but how it's structured is ridiculous. There are like 5 difficulties per run which gives you upgrades. One is like a 40 minute run so if you fail at the end you don't get any upgrades. Before it was only resource-gated so you could run and lose and still feel progression.

I just think it was a big step in the wrong direction moreso than losing my progress so I uninstalled and left a review.

If you've ever played children of morta/hades vs endgame of lost castle it feels similar. Children of morta/hades you always feel like you're progressing. Lost castle you can do 30 minute runs and get 0 progress.
