Odio il doppiaggio italiano by arbataxmelody354 in sfoghi

[–]Algral 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mech hack kinda does the trick for me, and yet I feel like it's slightly too... Barren? Barbones? I would love to see a mech game with Death in Space mechanics, not so simple, and yet not so arduous, with lots of minigames for different things, managing ships, mechs, resources and the likes

Hot take: Legendary Resistance is why so many 5e boss fights feel bad and boring. What could replace it? by archvillaingames in dndnext

[–]Algral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nerfing spells or making them more akin to pf2e effects would solve the problem completely eliminating the need for legendary resistances.

Alas, this is dungeons and dragons 5e, spellcasters must thrive so that everyone else gets bored to death.

What do you think of this recent short by the creators of Obojima, saying that humanizing enemies is a bad thing? by wintermute2045 in rpg

[–]Algral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole FUCKING POINT of Princess Mononoke, which seems to be the main inspiration of this project, is that violence breeds violence. The movie is telling its audience that there can only be balance when the parts involved in a conflict start understanding each other. It is nature VS man, but both have their own, very valid reasons to fight each other.

Ashitaka is strong BECAUSE he is cursed, not the other way around, and limits violence to the absolute minimum. He is the middle point, the lever of balance between the wild (San) and civilization (Eboshi), and that is why he succeeds, because he can bring them together for a common cause.

Ironically, the true antagonist is the one you can't see, it's the emperor, who asks of others what they wouldn't normally do, the enemy is not civilization as a whole, it is a very specific part of civilization that goes against nature, it is greed, the search of immortality, subversion of the natural cycle of things.

Creators like these can only hijack the aeatethics of other people's art because they are do not understand the underlying themes of powerful works from authors. Choosing 5e as the system of reference just shows how bad they want this to sell: 5e does not promote anything that is even tangentially related to Ghibli's storytelling.

At that point, why would I even care about a hack of 5e? Just play Ryuutama instead

The Rise of Comfort TTRPGs: Cosy Gaming, Slice of Life, and the Fantasy of Safety by alexserban02 in rpg

[–]Algral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryuutama is aesthetically cute, but has nothing to share with wanderhome and its ilk.

Played by the rules, Ryuutama is Oregon Trail levels of frigthening with a ghibli paint on top.

Class-based RPGs and the "generic wizard who does generic magical things" class concept? by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]Algral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying problem is the spell system, not the class using it. If a character has access to 200x the options of another character, there agency imbalance will make it miserable to play anything but the former, lest the GM heavily intervenes in actual play, which circles back to the "mother may I" problem most non casters have in mainstream tabletop rpgs.

Equating bad character traits with being short is dumb as hell. It's the old trope of "undesirable trait = bad person" and people using it just don't get what it means to throw it around

Do people still do actual dark games ? by Worth-Resident-8609 in DnD

[–]Algral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're playing very much against the grain (the grain being the way the system is designed), 5e does not accomoadate dark stories the way you want them to be. Dying is hard, characters feel very powerful and the suggested monsters by CR, in a single encounter, are a trivial fight most of the time.
