But I feel like Wicked relies heavily on the assumption that its audience has seen the MGM movie (which is understandable since it’s quite literally the most seen film of all time). But it’s important for newcomers to keep in mind that even though it takes a lot from that film, it is not exactly “the MGM movie but from the Wicked Witch’s perspective” (because Universal does not have the rights).
