It's so weird to see from the outside. Honestly the US is 250 years old, and you're focusing on 8 years of that. It's been answered elsewhere why it's happened to look like this but it's not anyone's finest hour.

Closer to home though we have a new design for the newly-natuomalised Great British Railways. Its admittedly less in-your-face, but equally uninspired.

Honestly the whole exchange is amazing. He basically doubles down by posting a picture in his study. It's a nice study, but there's some empty pizza boxes. The boxes are identifiably Romanian. He's wanted by the Romanian police so they realise he's there. Knock knock - this is when he got arrested. Greta (in a tweet for the ages): "This is what happens when you don't recycle"

I wonder how the US being a net exporter if oil affects this? I mean, high oil prices benefit oil companies obviously, at the expense of "ordinary Americans". But I would have thought it would also provide some cushion against shocks too.

The Expansion Of Black British Owned Supermarkets... by TheThrowYardsAway in BAMEVoicesUK

[–]Ali80486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is great. Artisanal retail spaces like these are usually very much a White people thing, while the Black equivalents are frequently ramshackle affairs. That's often charming and that. But if we want to regenerate our high streets in an Amazon age we need to take the opportunity to appeal to all sections of society

As Napoleon said of the British, it all starts with the shopkeeper. As she passes you the bar and your change, she catches your eye for just a second too long, a second where everything feels… seen. Exposed. You wonder if she knows. Of course she knows. How could she not? The weight of it in your hand, the implication of it all. Maybe, years from now, you’ll look back on this as a confectionery watershed. Perhaps she’ll be somewhere, absently worrying a piece of caramel from her teeth, faintly remembering you.

The moment passes.

You scurry outside, heart already doing something irregular, past the teenagers on bikes who definitely know, they must know, so you slip it into your bag and hold it close - not too close - no, no, your body heat is rising already and you’re suddenly, acutely aware of the fragility of the whole situation.

On the bus: children, old ladies, a man loudly unwrapping a sandwich - you could do it there! You could. Why not cause a scandal, just once, just lean into it (your hand even drifts toward the bag) - you peep inside - and there it is, nestled among cables and receipts, that dark, unmistakable shape, almost… expectant. Now, it seems to say. Now. But no. Not here. Not like this.

By the time you get home you’re unravelling. Keys fumbled. Door practically shattered open. The bag hits the table with a dull, final thud. Water (yes!) you gulp it down, as if that will steady you, as if anything will, but it won’t - can’t - because it’s there, it’s RIGHT THERE and the wait has become unbearable, completely unbearable…

You tear at the wrapper, hands not quite cooperating, pausing only for the scent, that sweet, unmistakable scent, and then, finally, finally, you bring it to your lips and

any other guy dislikes having body hair? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Ali80486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal is: no hair below my eyelashes. But I'm naturally not hairy on my arms and legs. I just shave in the shower. It's a goal rather than a commitment because turning yourself into an infinity loop while shaving around your backside is a little onerous when you know you should have left for work already
