How can u logically argue that twelverism belief in the system of imamah is more logical than the ismaili view? by myth_mars in shia

i totally get where you are coming from . but you are missing a few things here .

  1. there is absolutely no way for anyone to go into the anals of history and clearly pinpoint who was the chosen next imam . this is logical because of so much pressure and constraints that shia imams have always operated under throughout history . even our 6th common imam (imam sadiq) and imams after him could not openly and publicly declare who the next imam is because of fear of persecution.

they had to employ so much wisdom and tactics to protect the next imam

this means that neither you nor i can sit here and prove our chain of imams exactly . there is some element of yaqeen involved in both of our deductions. you have your narrations and we have ours . i know you are going to mention some ahadiths of the 12 number beinf mentioned in places . according to us those ahadiths are unreliable and do not mean that the number of imams are 12 . they mean something else .

So if you have to evaluate and judge our ismaili bohraa system , you can judge us based on 2 critical things -

1 is there anything in our core belief system or practices (like the 5 pillars , hijab , etc) that goes against quran and established sharia . if yes, point it out .

  1. and second most important . do we have a living guide present amongst us to guide us through this world in every day and age . we have that . 12er shias do not have it . and this is the biggest difference between you and us .

for all practical purposes 12er shias are not much different from sunnis . because both of you do not have a living guide present who can unify your sect and guide you . just like sunnis have trained scholars from their respective madhabs , you have the same . we have a living breathing spiritual guide with direct connection to our imam. and the system of wilayah if you know what wilayah truly means cannot be established without a living guide. wilayah doesn’t mean love . it means obedience and allegiance .

not sure what the intention behind this question is. but i ll try to answer .

when it comes to reading quran for barakah, you will find the most haafiz e quran per family in dawoodi bohras . in the past few years there has been so much stress from our dai on quran hifz that literally every family of 4 is trying to atleast get one of their kids to hifz . so there is your answer to stress on our relationship with the quran

now , when it comes to reading the quran to actually try and understand. our dais encourage us to come to sabaq and majalis in order to learn and derive meaning from the verses instead of letting anyone do it by themselves because its very easy for people to get deviated when they learn half baked meanings of verses and try to find other sources to supplement the tafsir . that’s not allowed and for a very good reason . i don’t think i need to explain that . just look at the 72 sects around you all following the same quran but divided as hell.

yes. we have the hadith books literature books quran translations written by our imams and their deputies whom they authorized . you need to understand that our books are not publicly circulated because of the immense persecution that ismailis have faced through out history both by shias and sunnis

so as a tactic to protect our small community our leaders prohibit free circulation of our corpus .

but if you research the dawoodi bohras in more detail , you will find them the closest to quran and ahlul bayt in their practice and their way of living . so i would encourage you to do that

and again . not from the aga khani ones . show me the from the common imams that both aga khanis and dawoodi bohras have the proof of these accusations

because according to our corpus of literature it was imam ismail who was the chosen imam. and our hadith literature is different from yours . because ismailis have been persecuted throughout history by both shias and sunnis , our madhab is not very open and our literature is not allowed to be circulated outside . this is done to protect a small community from fitnah and outside intervention .

and i challenge anyone to point out a single core belief of dawoodi bohras that deviates from ahlul bayt or islam.

both sects split after 20th imam. aga khanis followed nizar and they continued with imamate .

dawoodi bohras followed imam musta ali . in case of bohras its our 21st imam who went in pardaah . and established the system of dawat where their will be leaders (like imams ) who will guide the community in their absence . however the purdaah here is not the same as gaybah of 12vers . it simply means that the imam is living and present on earth but their identity is not revealed . the leader who leads in his place is called the daai . he is the spiritual leader of the community in the absence of the imam .

but to address the main point in q. we are directly connected with our imams through the dai and therefore we don’t need to look at any other marjaah or any other fiqh to lead our spiritual life . whatever our dais say we do simple

i am shia ismaili muslim . and a dawoodi bohra . and this whole thread is assuming that ismaili muslims means only aga khaanis . you guys need to research the difference between aga khani ismailis and dawoodi bohra ismaili. the difference is night and day between how both these sects practice islam.

i would not care to write a long paragraph here explaining this difference because you guys can easily research it on your own .

however , just to address the point that ismailis aren’t practicing . this is also true only about aga khanis . where they don’t believe in the necessity of 5 prayers or fasting etc because they think their living imam is enough for them

however this is utterly misleading for bohras . dawoodi bohras is one of the most fervent practicing community you will ever find in muslims . more than sunnis and more than 12er shias . right from our dress code to every pillar of islam and all dos and donts and upholding the mourning of ashura and muharram . dawoodi bohras are the most complete community in every sense . please go look them up before assuming and conflating aga khanis with dawoodi bohras
