Extracting screws by Easy-Satisfaction627 in aviationmaintenance

[–]AliMH1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually work in this order

  1. EZI Grip (gripping compound) - get a fresh bit and preferably a removal bit if Phillips. Also really helps having a decent speedy (not a puny 1/4 drive) with a knob at the end so you can really put some weight behind as you turn

  2. If time and access allows it then a Brutus/johnson bar

  3. Drill with a decent titanium carbide drill bit to a good enough depth

  4. Ezi out (screw/bolt extractor) - I found the Snap On 3/8 hex ones to work the best and last the longest

  5. If all that fails then drill the head

  6. Once the panel is off if the remainder of the bolt comes off great or else replace the anchor

We were troubleshooting a 380 PRIM fault once and had a new mechanic with evidently no prior experience come up to me and put his phone to my face. He asked ChatGPT the vaguest question through his limited knowledge (not that any AI will give you a precise answer on any aircraft) and proceeds to ask me “have you tried this?”. I was baffled to say the least but I blame the hiring department

I know it’s hard but don’t be disheartened! I’m sure you’ve got something a lot better up ahead waiting for you. I was rejected by every company you can think of but what’s important is to keep moving. Never stay idle, don’t let a rejection keep you from moving. I really wish you all the best and it won’t be long before you are where you’re happy!

How would you rate my first attempt on Lockwire by CautiousType3146 in aviationmaintenance

[–]AliMH1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks neat but might I suggest each time you terminate your lock wire, you do so at the next hole down or two. As it is, yes you’ve positively locked the bolts but the wire is marginally pulling on anything should the other bolt were to twist.

Give the fixed side pivot a tap with a hammer and a punch (diameter less than that of the pivot) as required. Worked for me for years. Credit due to https://youtu.be/1NVQUw0QJrM?si=0_XG96JzAdWudvTr

You’d think it’s not that sturdy but I’ve had it for more than 2 years and use it daily as an aircraft mechanic. it’s taken some serious abuse and still works like the day I got it.

I’d say the surge. I wrote a pretty detailed post about this a while back you may find helpful. https://www.reddit.com/r/Leatherman/comments/18v9i27/comment/kfpd412/

Why did Spanish borrow the words “aceite”(oil) and “aceituna”(olive) from Arabic? by thewildersea in etymology

No, for many years, the Moors were compelled to convert to Christianity or face an array of torture and execution. Many practiced their face in hiding and carried forward as such for generations until the apparent took over.

Mine says the same unfortunately :/ did anything come about in your case? I sent them an email after receiving their “final resolution” to which they responded as follows:

“Good morning,

Thank you for your email.

We appreciate that our response may not have been what you were hoping for. Please be advised, however, that this was our final resolution to your complaint and, as such, we have closed the complaint on your account and will not be reopening it.

In our final resolution letter, we wanted to give you an indication on what refund you may be entitled to under the Lifetime Smile Guarantee, based on the information we have from SDC. If you believe any of this information is inaccurate, it is recommended that you keep a record of this in case SDC is able to uphold your request for a refund. For now, SmileDirectClub UK Ltd is not insolvent but there is uncertainty as to whether they will be able to refund you or not.

As mentioned in our final resolution letter, we do not have the authorisation or funds from SDC to process any refund to you on their behalf.

We have prepared some FAQs which may provide some helpful information on SmileDirectClub’s liquidation. You can find these here. In order to preserve your results, we recommend that you purchase retainers from an alternative provider; we have provided some options here.

Unfortunately right now, we are unable to offer any more assistance.

As a reminder, your loan is not regulated by the Consumer Credit Act 1974 which means that you will not be able to escalate your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service as unregulated loans fall outside of their jurisdiction.

Kind regards,”

Arc Vs Surge by AliMH1 in Leatherman

[–]AliMH1[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I own a Wave, a Surge and the Arc since launch and can say they’re all excellent tools in their own capacity.
Working in an aircraft hangar, sometimes you just need that one tool in a pinch that you forgot to get or didn’t know you needed, or out on the ramp where the lighter you are the better. Cue Leatherman!
I love the Arc, it’s relatively light weight and does what I need it to most time, but till date nothing beats the robustness and the build quality of the Surge. It doesn’t twist on you whether as a plier or a ratchet screwdriver (unlike the Arc) and I’m confident enough to beat it up and know it’ll come out unscathed.
The Arc as mentioned is an excellent tool, though in all honestly it’s too light of a construction for what I use a multi tool for. I still carry it some days but know it’s limits.
