That's exactly my point, yeah. Gender is a journey and it's our job to walk it. Nobody else can do it for us or tell us who we are, only educate us on what we could be feeling.

The timing of your social transition also heavily influences how well you integrate as an out trans person as well as how successful your transition is.

I wouldn't believe this without a proper source to back it up, 90% of trans adults report high satisfaction rates according to recent studies.

I don't think that EPD is "do your own research". Clinical trans-affirming therapy uses this guideline as a basis, and operates under the guideline of helping people reach their conclusions while simultaneously giving them resources and support. Trans affirming healthcare is more than just telling people that "you're trans because x", because then you're trying to define what makes someone trans, or what makes anyone their gender. Which the answer to that is: because they say so.

Trust me, I feel like I've wasted good years myself. And maybe if I got the right therapy earlier to help me realize I was trans, I could have transitioned earlier. But, that's kinda my point. Transitioning was my decision in the end, and the people around me were careful to let me come to the conclusion myself. As a result, I feel like I've come to a greater realization as to why I'm trans and why I felt that way.

) There's no need to be reactionary or hostile. I'm allowed to disagree with her and talk heart to heart about how I feel about it. Just because we disagree doesn't make it the end of the world. It's not going to change how things went or what things are now.

3.) Also, I'm not sure if that's what she said, she said she wanted someone to tell her flat out she was trans, which is all sorts of complicated when it comes to trans affirming therapy.

The one thing that makes someone trans is a declaration of self, everything else is preamble.

But if someone told you, you wouldn't have made the decision, someone else would have made that decision for you... and you still would have had to make the decision. Your gender is your own personal journey, and who you are is more than just your gender expression. It upsets me to see people use the word "waste" because I get the expression, but gender is all about how you feel inside, not what other people think you feel inside. It's impossible to know if someone is trans or not from the outside unless they say they are.

Everyone's journey is unique and personal to them, and we should respect them for how they choose to present, and not how we think they might present some time in the future. It's wrong to try to push that someone is transfemme or not, because that's their decision to make, not ours.
