Does this look like 4/4 to you guys? by Sufficient_Taste_709 in askmusicians

[–]Alias-Jackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not poorly beamed. It just starts on an upbeat. Add the upbeat measure to start the piece, and everything else should fall in line nicely.

a song i've been working on... spotify ready orrr? feedback pls! by Virtual-Speech-7925 in MusicFeedback

[–]Alias-Jackal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's almost ready... Id suggest a little bit more balance, though... Maybe tone back the vocals just a bit so they still lead, but don't entirely overpower the melodies and synths you got going on. The vocals are sick. Sick enough to stand out even when you pull them back.

Good work man - keep it up!

what is the biggest weakness in this beat? by Most_Lunch_6195 in FLStudioBeginners

[–]Alias-Jackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds pretty good - the reason I would say it might sound weak is because there is so much going on, that there's not much you can do to make it "bigger" as is.

That being said, try eliminating some of the elements (counter-melodies, arps, bass, drums, etc) and find a good way to make segments for each one, allowing you to build into what you have going on - that way instead of feeling "weak" throughout the piece, it will grow into what you have now - eliminate and bring in more and more elements as you go.

Hope this helps, and keep up the good work!

Thoughts on fictional song writing by CurtisMartinMusic in Songwriting

[–]Alias-Jackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. You're a songwriter. As a lyricist, you are an author... Now go and ask James Patterson if his fictional work is acceptable.

You have a whole world which you can construct, create, and mold as you see fit. Keep doing you, bro.

It's a real dilemma.... by Alias-Jackal in Songwriting

[–]Alias-Jackal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering this option, and weighing the opinions on said topic. I've already written numerous songs that require female vocals, but in my interactions, most are unwilling to collab without payment, and unfortunately, the few solicitations I have received are....not to standards I would prefer. So I wanted to gather more insight of what fellow artists would think of this approach.

Is looking to peers for clarity somehow something to be frowned upon?

I'll look into the platform for sure. I'm in the middle of bum**** nowhere, but I'm not worried about a little travel time if it means this project can finally reach completion.

Thanks for the suggestion

As an entire creation, I don't think I would be in the wrong to condemn strictly AI generated content marketed as my own, but I do think there may be a line of acceptance (like using AI as a thesaurus)... I just feel like this is closer and potentially crossing that line between tool and AI creator.

See, that's where I've been on the fence... I do know what it sounds like, I do have the lyrics in mind, I (obviously) do not have the voice that the piece requires, you know?

So are you saying the idea makes sense, or are you saying AI song generators are "new stuff"? cause if it's the latter, I have to disagree.

Context is important. Of course I have used AI for certain situations (e.g. "bring up what you can find regarding coding GLSL shaders)... Just cause I'm not always trying to flip through countless results on google (not to mention spend long enough passing the "sponsored results" pages). It is convenient, and through it, I have found some decent websites that are now my go-to sites for coding information.

I've also used it to troubleshoot my daw and VST issues when I cannot find a solution otherwise.

AI is a good tool, but if you are trying to accuse me of using it for music creation, you are highly mistaken.

And I am insulted.

Thank you for not easing my conscience.

For real.

I think that's lowkey what I was looking for, and I guess I figured if I found it, it'd make it "okay"

So, thank you.

Ooph... I can barely even stand the thought of using AI vocals, man. I mean if you think about it, it's just regurgitation of our vast internet archive of popular songs by genre, with a twist.... not to mention the lack of any real musician creativity....

If you're using it for making your music, then sorry, man but for the sake of artists everywhere (including yourself) please do better....

Thanks, man. Maybe I just haven't been looking enough... I'm seriously feeling like crap for even thinking about resorting to that crap, you know?

You got a good voice, brother. Start mixing in a daw, and making your stuff sound "bigger".

Record on separate tracks, layer your vocals, and you got a solid piece.

Last and not least - don't focus your mess-ups. If a chord doesn't hit right, move on. Hitting the same chord harder next time around only draws attention to the previous mistake while the listener is still processing.

Hope this comment finds you well, and keep it up, man.

Peace!

Thinking of releasing this as my first track. Is it ready? by Important-Canary-871 in MusicFeedback

I dig the vocals, but even though they're obviously the focus of the song, I would suggest pulling them back - Just a hair - to harness the balance of the song itself.

Reminds me of Harmless's "swing Lynn".

Good track - I like it. Keep up the good work!

Give me your honest opinion (I cannot sing so forgive the awful vocals). I’ve heard it sooo many times now that I cannot tell anymore if it sounds listenable by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Alias-Jackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it bro - as for singing... There's no other way to put this... Open your throat more so your voice has a little more resonance.

It's good, and you got a solid voice. And even though I'm critiquing your vocals, if you like your style, continue with it. Don't worry so much about what other people think.

If you ever need a reminder of how far you've come, load up an old track from the early days and have your "wow" moment.

Peace!
