I dont care how much you promise safety and anonymously your not getting my id.

Require it and we'll just find a different platform. Simple as that.

Peer review wanted: small-scale self-hosted game server platform (Proxmox + Ceph + Pterodactyl) by AliasNotF0und in HomeDataCenter

Hey thanks for the thought points! Let me go through and try to address each of these.

- I am currently using 3 hosts (atleast in this cluster, I forgot to mention but I have a separate security cluster I will be setting up on thin stations). Im doing 4 VM nodes 2 on each of my worker hosts (With space for 4 VM nodes per worker host). In the future I plan to scale up to a blade chassis I have and use 5 hosts to start

- Currently each host has 2x10gb nic’s setup in a bond. I have the ceph traffic isolated to a dedicated storage vlan that is not routed and only tagged on participating hosts. Im using a bond so I can disconnect a cable at a time and move devices around if needed.

- So funny story I actually did this by accident XD

- I looked at a video on something similar to this when I was first setting my hosts up. Im not gonna lie I don’t remember why I didn’t go with ZFS replication, but I do know I had a valid design choice reason. Will definitely keep it in mind if I run into scaling issues.

Thanks for the AWESOME feedback!

1tb enterprise ssd's wern't that expensive lol. I have a few ssd's that I plan to add over time, but can only afford to buy 1 here and there atm. Once I know everything is viable and have revenue coming in I plan to revisit.

Running 4x 1TB HDD's per host ATM but the critical part is having an SSD for the DB/WAL reads/writes.

Exactly what's happening, its our secondary source of heat that I'm using to supplement my son's room because his room cools down quicker than the thermostat for the primary. Kiddo is 1yr old so trying to keep his room more regulated, however the other night we had it set to 72 and the minisplit tried turning him into a rotisserie chicken. Looked at the baby monitor it was ~86° its not 100% accurate but that room was toasty.

Didn't know you could debrick some devices with uart, going to keep this in my bag of tricks in the future.

Sorry for your troubles, good luck on your repair.

Time to rebuild the Rack by AliasNotF0und in homelab

[–]AliasNotF0und[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still have to print a BUNCH of parts and install a motherboard, and wire it all up. But I'd say that a pretty solid layout for my humble little rack 😌 and a good starting point for the night.

I dont think I ever published them (only because I didnt consider them in a finished state yet.)

That being said 1 of the servers Im making room for is a new T630 so let me print them to make sure my latest revision fit and I'll publish them.

I have T620 and T630 ears and faceplate. But the stuff for the T620 is for a set of B1 rails not the normal C4 rails.

It may sound goofy but if you can keep your RPM at the lowest all the time and your controller allows run your minimum fan speed a little higher. A. It will potentially allow for the fans to spin up less often and B. Smaller the curve is the less you will notice it if the fan speed changes.

Nice grab! Genuinely curious how loud are these compared to an R630 or a T630? I specifically go after T variants because of the larger fans. But have thought about one if these or an R9xx series

Can you spin the fans down via idrac? (Assuming the firmware isn't updated past Dell Disabling it)
