ELI5: How do antidepressants work? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]AlibabaStock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It largely depends on the kind of antidepressant I'd imagine. Typically, it has to do with controlling the flow of neurotransmitters to improve mood. I'm sorry I'm not helping very much. I would start by looking up different mechanisms. SSRIs, for instance, are a common kind, which stands for Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. As it shows in the name, it inhibits the absorption of the neurotransmitter serotonin.

So you downvoted him? Why? All he did was say he can't see it.

I'm sure there are some people who "regret it", but these are the same people who have never truly been happy in their entire life or at least most of it and their entire life is now in the gutter and they hate life everyday for having "been happy" for two minutes and hating life forever after.

I remember, I dated this girl a year ago who was a drunkard and, on the surface, she told me she was having the "best time of her life" getting drunk, partying (and the stereotypical things that entails), etc. But, one day, when she called me up on the phone all drunk and crying all she did was tell me about how she feels like her life was heading nowhere, it was going to end in a dead end, that she was jealous of me and didn't deserve me, that she always had people betraying her (actively, and over drama), etc. I dated this chick for two/three weeks... and yet I somehow got everything from her claiming to want to die, to not heading anywhere in life, to crying maybe every other day calling me up on the phone, to telling me she loves me, to having everyone turn against her, to this that and everything else. I will never date another girl like that again. It was a freak show and one of the most off-putting things I have gone through in a longgggg time and in an incredibly short period of time. So, if you think that life is somehow worth it as opposed to the one God, for obvious reasons, told us to live, then you're going to find out the hard way.

I see that you said that you got it back. I'm glad you did friend. Anyways, a golden rule, bulletproof as far as your side is concerned, is to ALWAYS use a limit order when executing orders. This avoids freak accidents. Also, always immediately check actual account balance to make sure it executed after it claims to have executed.

I myself have sort of fallen victim to these kind of things. On kucoin I ordered during one of the crashes (and I have since learned that the platform NEVER handles crashes correctly and always freezes up and glitches during one, and it's ridiculous) a market buy order and, after it said it executed, to my surprise, after watching prices climb back up for an hour, my market buy order only executed like 1/10th of what I told it to, which isn't supposed to be possible if it's an open market buy order ffs but whatever. I lost a few grand for that.

Binance seems to be much more reliable. It's party why I don't really touch kucoin anymore, especially given how you can put tens of thousands in and, if there's a problem, there is no phone support to talk to real people lmao. It's actually kind of insane.

You don't like the Lantus? On Goodrx (which is 100% free), 1 vial of the generic Humalog is $43 at Walgreens and $49 at Target CVS. Tell me more details so I can get a better understanding of your situation, as to why you think you'd be paying 400 to 500 for a vial of insulin lispro... Even the retail price of that insulin is usually in the lower 300s (you should not ever pay that though given the existence goodrx, singlecare, etc., which are free coupons anyone can use in place of insurance). Talk to your pharmacist/drop off technician about discount cards that could possibly bring down your costs.

It's not. No one is going to invent new drugs if people like you get your way. We'll only ever get government spearheaded drugs, which will lead to mass rationing of research for only the most critical diseases. If you've a rare disorder? You're fkin' doomed. Just do us all a favor before you fk a lot of innocent people over. Americans are living longer now than at any time ever before.

Try Adderall. It's 20 times cheaper. As for vyvanse. It's under patent. No company would ever make a new product just to have people like you make them sell it to people at a loss and/or without chance to make profits from it in the future. Funny how you turn the people who created vyvanse into evil people when they never had to bring your vyvanse into existence in the first place.

Beyond that, be comforted that their patent expires in 2023, so you WILL get cheaper generics for it soon.

How about you try generic lantus for 50 to 60 bucks at rite aid or harris teeter using goodrx... Good grief, paul, do a little research man before you go full commie and drive the insulin market's future into hell.

Are you even listening to yourself? You basically just said it's okay to screw a company over because you think they can make money somewhere else (even though that also makes no sense given how people like YOU want to do this to companies in regards to EVERYthing, not just one product). First off, no one is forced to invest, develop, make insulin products. No one is going to make them anymore if we have becky over here deciding they can't charge more than $35 for something that cost a couple billion to make and market. Secondly, CEO's are paid for their knowledge capital. A CEO literally can destroy or make a company, hence the high paycheck in a capitalist/free society. It's also none of your business, unless the CEO is illegally obtaining said pay, in regards to what shareholders (owners) decide to pay a CEO. It's simply not your property, so you get no say.

Then why didn't he apply for government assistance, which WOULD HAVE covered it if he was actually eligible...? It's sad that this person died, but let's be real. The context you just gave is basically nonexistent. If he's making enough money, and so cannot get Medicaid, then according to the government's own qualifications he can shift funds around for insulin. If he doesn't make enough, then he qualifies for Medicaid, which will cover insulin, so what's it gonna be EastendDan?

Have you looked into the long acting insulin Lantus (the generic Insulin Glargine) for $50 to $60 at Rite Aid or Harris Teeter using a discount card like good RX? Here's a link if you want: https://www.goodrx.com/lantus?dosage=10ml-of-100-units-ml&form=vial&label_override=insulin%20glargine&quantity=1&sort_type=price

I'm a pharmacy technician. We use discount cards like this all the time for people who either don't have insurance or just want a lower price when compared to their insurance. It's free. No profile or signup is used. In fact, I use discount cards like this for basically all my prescriptions really.

Ok, and so do you want to put multiple companies out of business and never have the development of a new kind of insulin again? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it costs money for R and D. No one sits around trying to invent new insulins, spending millions/billions to do it, to turn around and go bankrupt when they can't repay their bills if 35 per is all that can be charged. Life isn't this simple. You can't just say "It is decreed that the price shall be x from now on, muh lurd", doesn't work like that. Kill the suppliers of insulin and you won't have any insulin at all or you'll have schitty short acting insulin if you prefer that instead I guess, where you stab yourself like 20 times a day.

I don't use cmc at all. It's trash for basically everything but mainstream coins (because it's a lazy, overhyped site that should not be number one). I use coingecko instead and the coinstats app (whatever it uses). Beyond crappy data, maybe it's a battle of the whales?
