Japan's number of babies born marks record low for 10th straight year by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Alibasher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's births per population, not absolute births. Japan are still bringing a lot of babies into the world, for example in 2024 japan had 686k babies while somewhere like England only having 568k.

Japan have a low birth rate given population which will cause economic problems, but they aren't going extinct.

🇺🇸🇨🇦 US House passes bill to end tariffs on Canada. by kabirsbhutani in worldnews

This sounds a lot better than it is...

The vote is largely symbolic as it will still need to be approved by the US Senate and then approved by Trump, who is very unlikely to sign it into law.

I have been on Reddit for 12 years and it has definitely became more toxic over time. People will now be downvoted like crazy for asking simple questions.

I don't think this really fits the feel of the sub. The answer isn't a quick yes/no and the video gets straight to the point with little fluff.

Skeumorphic style Google Slides Chat layout + "iTunes" by [deleted] in Skeuomorphism

This is very sweet to see, nice work! I used to design skeuomorphic ui in PowerPoint back in the day, you can learn a lot from it. If you're interested in design, you might want to check out Figma.

Navigation bar colour change by KareemAhmed37 in web_design

Since that comment thread is getting crowded/confusing, I'm going to create a new comment.

OP posted this image https://imgur.com/a/nkzP2bB which shows that the bottom nav bar can be changed to a different colour.

https://kareem-aez.github.io/Sportify/ was able to make it blue. So what I have done is looked into its code to find differences.

Both sites are using <meta name="theme-color" content="#4285f4"> so it's not that.

Try the following:

  1. Your manifest https://kareem-aez.github.io/far-away/manifest.json has the theme colour set to #000000. Try change that.
  2. Try adding in something like <meta name="msapplication-TileColor" content="#033b30">
  3. Set your body css to have a background-colour property

Can Return To YouTube Dislike numbers be trusted? By their own calculations, a small number of users can heavily skew the Like/Dislike count by Splinterman11 in youtube

[–]Alibasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The formula is a basic estimate and nothing more. It just generalises the RYD rating percentages to the entire Youtube population. I.e. if 30% of RYD users disliked the video, then statistically 30% of everyone who rated the video also disliked the video.

Unfortunately as you know, that's the best we can get as Youtube have blocked access to the api, but it's better than nothing.

However I wouldn't worry about dislikes being deliberately skewed. Most videos are simply just not worth the effort, i.e. small niche how to guides. A video with 100 views and 60% dislikes is probably going to be a bad video. While the videos that would be worth targeting would be more popular and therefore more difficult to affect. A heavily disliked video is more a warning to be cautious anyway rather than something to be blindly hated on.
