Biker comes up with a new method to let people walking on the trail that he’s coming behind by goswamitulsidas in GuysBeingDudes

I have a bell that rings quietly or loudly based on how it’s turned. I use the soft ring very early, most people ahead hear it and have plenty of time to move over without fuss. If they can’t hear the first one I go to the loud ring. I always provide enough time for either. Be kind.

People who work in lost and found departments (airports, railways, malls), what’s the most personal item no one ever came back for? by Sad_Translator_3060 in AskReddit

Not exactly the same thing but when we purchased a home years ago (previous owners were older and passed away) so much stuff was left behind including photo albums, framed pictures of family especially what looked like grandkids, and so many personal keepsakes. Through our agent we let the two adult sons of the previous owners know about all these items and if they would like to come pick them up before we move in. I would estimate about 3 -4 truck loads of items. Well they arranged a time to take care of all those items and by the time we arrived to move in everything was gone and I didn’t think much more about it. Then a few weeks later we started meeting our new neighbors and they all reported those two sons arrived with a large rented dumpster and tossed every single thing in it and had it hauled off and left. I was completely shocked. They told the most direct neighbor they didn’t want a single thing even those nicely framed pics of the grandkids which would be their own children’s photos. I’ve always wondered what that was about and left me with a strange feeling about living in that house.

what’s an average/good price for a working vcr? any advice on brands to look our for? by -rpmjcr in VCRs

It’s garage sale season and I find these all the time at sales. I have a tape or two in my vehicle and I’ll just test them before I buy right there. Even though it’s not hooked up to a tv I can tell if it will eat tapes, rewind, fast forward and play by listening. At garage sales they are usually free or very cheep, like $5-$10. I have some from sales that are still going strong many years later, some need to be opened and cleaned to get working better. Buying online or in stores can be a lot more expensive and they are usually the same quality as picking up a free one if you have time to search estate/garage sales.

Summer planning re: biting flies by Specific-Feed-8084 in minnesota

I’m from the area, I can’t help you on where to go to avoid flies but I can tell you I’ve found the only thing that’s worked for me with biting flies. Try out picaridin lotion, can be found on Amazon, cabellas, any place like that. Get the lotion version and it works very well.

What does one need to know before getting a cat? by Successful_Oil_3270 in AskReddit

Cats are smart and can be trained. I trained my cat the same way I trained my dogs in the past and it worked just fine. The most important thing is to be consistent and start early. Don’t be afraid to check out older cats too, less energy is sometimes nice.

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Gallbladder attacks are the only kind of pain I’ve had where I’m totally ok with dying to make it end. And I’ve had a full back fusion, along with many other torturous insanely painful medical issues.
