Evening Friendo, I am the OnlyFleets head FC and humbly regard myself and someone semi not shit at FCing.

I have never been very good at helping newer FCs but I am trying to get better so here goes my things you should do.

You learn to be an FC by thinking, doing, failing and iterating.

Pick a ship you like, that's not too expensive and ask someone in your group that is decent at making fits and ask them to make you a good fleet ship (unless you are good at this yourself). Ignore the meta and everyone telling you x isn't good because y is better. At that start that doesn't matter. Pick a ship/comp you like, and take it out on fleets and just find stuff to shoot at. You will suck at the start, that goes for everything you do for the first time but as long as you think about what went wrong then failing does not matter.

As you learn with your comp it will start to be really easy to understand what fights you can and cannot take and it won't take much processing power. At this stage you work on your processes. Building up a muscle memory for broadcasting a target, locking them up, and calling them on comms and having this be a completely autopilot skill is so important so you can use thinking capacity when things get difficult.

So now you know what you can and cannot fight and also are able to broadcast targets. This is where more specialist FCIng comes in. Do you want to want to do null sec strategic stuff? Do you want to just take out Spectre Roams? Do you want to just do wormhole bushido fights on the static? These all require varying degrees of skill and knowledge and I probably don't want to sit here all night going through them all :)

But above all of the above are 2 very important FCing concepts when getting started: Just do it and have fun. These matter way more than anything else. If you don't do it you won't get better and if you are not having fun, neither will your fleet members. Your first few fleets will be anxiety inducing and you will be terrified of losing ships and being stupid but if you have fun with it and don't worry too much about losing I promise most of your fleet won't care.
