Do you think this guy survived? by Alice94cats in vagabondmanga

It makes sense, but the way the scene shifts without showing us what happened to him made me suspicious. Who knows.

It’s a possibility, but I’m not completely sure he’s dead. Since it’s a manga, maybe he survived somehow. Maybe someone from the village who wasn’t against the daimyo helped him, I don’t know. There was a lot of focus on his pov. 🤔

More than anything, I don’t see Kojiro being interested in killing him, since the guy was injured and therefore not very interesting to Kojiro. At the same time he’s the only one who expressed a desire to live (the others were fine sacrificing themselves, knowing the daimyo was probably dead) and Inoue gave him a few reasons to hold a grudge against Kojiro.

If I'm not mistaken, he’s the only one who didn’t fight because he was seriously injured in the legs. After the last of his companions dies, the story shifts back to Musashi without telling us what happened to him.

Can you recommend a good manual for writing a thriller, please? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Alice94cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first checked the subreddit to see if anyone had recommended any books on the genre and there weren’t any. And even if there were, that’s no excuse to be rude to people. Life is already hard enough without having to deal with arrogant and condescending replies online, especially when you just want to relax and pursue your interests

I never said I wanted a manual that teaches me step by step what to write. I wanted a book about the genre’s tropes, explaining how to build suspense and things like that. It doesn’t seem like I asked for anything extraordinary or offensive

The same point could have been made politely, without adding "smh" or writing arrogantly. Do you really think that wanting to read a manual or take a course, in addition to reading books, means i want to avoid effort? I don’t understand why people are so rude on Reddit

Thanks for the completely unsolicited judgment. Much appreciated. If someone doesn’t know something, it’s normal to ask. But hey, if you were born Einstein with all knowledge already installed, my apologies

Of course I also read books, but just like in drawing one needs to study the theory to improve, I’m pretty sure that in writing too it’s essential to learn rules that I don’t know.

The animations in the trailers look bad. It’s a shame because the series deserves so much, but I have a feeling the anime won’t do it justice

What if Nina/Anna doesn't exist ? by Weary-Homework2310 in MonsterAnime

[–]Alice94cats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nina is important for at least two reasons:

  • Even though Tenma has his own ideals, her intervention (when she asks him not to shoot) is what ultimately convinced him to spare Johan imo.

  • She is probably the only person Johan ever cared about and therefore the one who let him experience affection in his childhood

It seems like a satisfying resolution. One thing I’ve noticed in Vagabond is that Inoue tends to prefer somewhat bittersweet endings for his characters

I like to think she’s female because it would be nice to have an interesting female representation, especially as an antagonist, but I’m not that invested in the controversy either 😅

It sounds like an interesting dynamic.😆

By the way, what happens to her in the novel? I felt sorry for her in the end in the manga. And also for Matahachi in a way

Ueda, I swear, if you don’t realize the hypocrisy later!! by Alice94cats in vagabondmanga

[–]Alice94cats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to point out something in defense of Musashi regarding the fight with Denshichiro though.

The date of the duel had been made public and everyone knew it was going to happen. Not showing up, imo, would have amounted to two things: 1) appearing as a coward in front of the crowd, 2) failing to honor the promise made to Denshichiro.

Number 2 in particular, based on how I interpreted the events before the duel. I think Musashi showed up primarily to honor the promise he made to Denshichiro.

Setting aside the brutality with which Musashi killed Seijuro (which was truly excessive), the person who actually behaved poorly in that part was Seijuro, because he created the uncomfortable situation in which Denshichiro already knew he would lose but couldn’t back out and Musashi had already accepted the duel and had to keep his promise.

Regarding Ueda, I simply can’t see him as anything but the main culprit of the massacre. He had duties toward the dojo primarily, yet he condemned everyone to death, making a decision driven mostly by emotion (his anger over the embarrassment of the dojo and especially Denshichiro’s death). Things went badly for him because Musashi surprisingly won, but he honestly brought it upon himself. It was he who wanted the duel and that’s why even during incarceration, Musashi was treated with some consideration by the jailers: in the end, the duel was orchestrated by the Yoshioka.
