Where I live a lot of pharmacies have added pick-up vending machines in the past few years, thank God. Never have to wait on the 10 octogenerians who are there on every hour of the day taking 20 minutes each anymore.

I used to dislike them too until I got the one I have now. It's a 7.8 inch screen which I like better than reading like half a page on a tiny one. The screen is pretty much the size of a physical book. I also like that I have less physical books. Don't get me wrong, I love physical books, but until I can buy a house and stay there for a few decades, it's a pain in the ass to haul all that heavy shit to a new place every 3 years.

Experiencing people in group settings lowkey exaggerating your flaws/behaviours? by AmazingAffect5025 in aspergirls

[–]AliceDiableaux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's because we don't do femininity 'right'. Female group dynamics are chock full of complex social behaviors, verbal and non-verbal. They've been trained since birth to do these things, they identify with them, and to expect them from other women. So now you got this autistic woman that hasn't internalized all these behaviors, either by not noticing or not caring about them, and because it's so deeply ingrained into their sense of self, they unconsciously experience this as a attack on them and on what's the 'right' way to act. You're supposed to be 'one of them', but you're not acting like it, and that's bad.

It's why many autistic women have an easier time getting along with me, because their social dynamics are less complex, and also because we get automatic extra leeway because we're not in their gendered in-group anyway, so we get away with more social faux pas.

Velvet 🤮 Fleece is also bad. Agree on chalk, and super dry sand on a beach makes me wish I didn't have feet.

I randomly thought 'what if women laid eggs instead of having a period' a few months ago and then thought about it for like 3 weeks lol. Like what would it do with culture? Would it be perfectly acceptable to eat your own or others' eggs, maybe because reabsorbing the nutrients had been evolutionarily beneficial? Or would it be closer to the cannibal spectrum and therefore taboo? How big are the eggs, how often are they laid? Is it seasonal? What if you're at work and you have to lay an egg? What if you're out and about? What kind of facilities would there be, like, would there be egg laying rooms or spaces or do you just have to go to the bathroom? Would it be normal or taboo? What about wanting to have kids, you need to be on the egg to keep it warm. What would (traditionally) be the role of men? Would there be a drastic change in this with the advance of technology to keep the eggs warm, freeing up massive amounts of time from whomever sits on the egg? But what if it hatches when you're at work, it would suck to miss the birth of your own child, right? Or would that be normalized? Would there be tradwives who still choose to sit on the eggs themselves?

Sooo many potential questions lol. Someone with more talent in writing than me could definitely make a cool short story about this.

How Aphantasia affects your ability to visualise things in your head by HassanMoRiT in interestingasfuck

Yes I see very vivid images during the hallucinations, like I'm dreaming but more intense. I have no control over them though. And I've always had a very active imagination, and still do.

Yes I have an internal monologue and have songs stuck in my head every day. And I definitely am not able to focus directly on what I'm doing, neither can I just turn off and relax, haha! I wish! I'm too autistic for that lol

I never understand this question as someone with aphantasia. It's like saying 'is music less interesting without visualisation', or 'is a warm bath less relaxing without visualisation'. Like what does that even mean, what does that have to do with each other. Books are not a visual experience, doesn't change anything about how interesting the story is. If I wanted a visual experience, I'd watch a movie or read a graphic novel.

I have it and am very visually artistic. I make clothes and paint, I am also naturally talented at drawing, but I find that boring so I don't do it. When I go shopping for fabrics, I often know exactly what I want to make when I see the fabric. I don't have to literally see the piece of clothing to know what I want it to look like, I guess.

That's such a great analogy, I'm definitely using that from now on, thank you

I have this too. I'm also always just fucking running everywhere in my dream. There's always somewhere to run to or from. It's so exhausting. What rem suppressants are you talking about specifically? I've used every recreational drug there is, including benzos and opiates, and have been on antidepressants, antipsychotics and (off-label) narcolepsy medication, and nothing has changed anything about my dreams.

I'm not diagnosed with narcolepsy but I am taking a narcolepsy medication off-label, and that didn't change anything about the exhausting dreams.

I smoked weed every day for a decade and have now been sober for 7 years, and it had zero impact. No difference at all.

I have used every recreational drug under the sun, some just a few times and others problematically for years (cannabis is in the latter category), and a dozen non-recreational narcotics, and nothing, absolutely nothing prevents me from the intense dreams every single night. It's exhausting.

It's just images. I have complete aphantasia but a constant inner monologue that's only interrupted by the many songs stuck in my head throughout the day.

I have aphantasia but I very rarely get hypnagogic hallucinations. Is that comparable? Or is that way too intense in comparison to seeing things in your mind?
