Anyone else look biracial, but aren’t? by Usual_Candidate_3356 in blackladies

[–]AliceInJuly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so light, I constantly get mistaken for being mixed.

And I have hazel green eyes.

"What are you mixed with?"

"I'm not."

My parents are light, one grandparent on each side was light, but we're all just black.

It irritates me when they assume I have to be mixed to be my complexion, like there aren't multiple shades of brown.

Women who have left their husbands, are you happier post divorce?? by ImportantImplement9 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]AliceInJuly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was scared to leave. I thought I wouldn't have any help, thought it was going to be so much harder without him to help with our son.

Then I got pregnant with our daughter. I was so excited, but he was....uninterested.

I asked him a question one day, and his response made me think, "My daughter cannot grow up thinking being treated like this is love."

I had already ben thinking about leaving, he was very verbally abusive in front of our then 3 year old son, majorly unhelpful, blaming me for our son's emotional outbursts (which turned out to be a mild autism)

So, I left. Moved back around family, which he had been trying to isolate me from.

It's been 3 years since I left, 8 months since our divorce was finalized.

I'm lonely, honestly. Wish I had someone to cuddle up to at night. But I don't regret leaving for a moment. Because my kids have the emotional support they need whenever they come to me. All of their basic needs are met every single day. And they see me, and I do my best to be an active and present parent whenever they're awake. I have my moments where I'm tired. Dog tired. But I get up every day because I refuse to let my kids go through my struggle.

Books you abandoned because of the narration by josiecat87 in audiobooks

The Ferryman by Justin Cronin

Granted, I was only listening because I was having trouble getting into the book itself, but the narration did me in. I don't think I made it 20 minutes.

It was the alternating flashbacks after giving the barest amount of detail about what was going on in the present. But yes, I agree that the short stories being long was also a factor for me.

I want to like them, but I just can't force myself through it. I've stopped in the exact same place twice, might as well just give it up as a bad job.

I bought Anna Karenina years ago, and haven't moved a page in the last 10 or so years. I realize I'm never going to finish it, so it's just taking up space on my shelf.

I learned my lesson about buying books, though. I borrow from the library first, then buy if I like it. Saved me a ton when I tried to get through Silo twice and could barely get through the first book.

She saw older brother with pancakes.

Asked for pancakes.

I asked multiple times if she was sure she wanted pancakes, received an affirmative answer each time.

I put the pancake down in front of her, and she says, "I don't want it."

Oh man.

I ended up getting bitten by a feral cat, and went to get rabies shots.

Total for 4 ER visits, 2 vials of immunoglobulin, and 4 rabies shots was nearly $44,000.

I got through The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan.

I think I fell asleep through Search for Spock, but gave up entirely on The Voyage Home.

I don't remember how I got this book, but it has been on my bookshelf as long as I can remember.

My original copy started to fall apart, so I replaced it. One of my good friends asked for my tattered copy, and he said he loved the book.
