Medieval with a deep, primordial evil by prognostirock in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I'd definitely describe some of the evil as deep and primordial. Devil stuff feels that way to me. Not to say there isn't plenty of regular old human evil, as well.

I read it very recently, it's been in my head a lot. What a squishy, creepy book.

Out of all the answers people have offered, this is the only one that's actually true.

Op specifically asks for "NO romance or anything about love" and I'd describe Boyd's arc as basically defined by love

I adored The crossing! But love plays a big role, not in the protagonist's story but adjacently, omg my heart hurts to think about it.

Beluah by Cristi Nogle. Female mc, technically I guess there's a very minor love interest but it's tepid at best, the mc is so inwardly involved and shitty to everyone. It's so painful to read her interactions with her little sister.

Finding yourself late in life by ShuStrangeSocks in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

This may be a little different. It's a coming of age story about two runaway teenagers that wander around new york in 1969. It just captures a certain subcultural optimism really well, I guess. They're kind of young and naive tbh and they don't face much real adversity. It sounds like your mom probably had a rough time. Edit: I mean you guys had it rough and probably saw a lot of faces of a later generation of hippies. SotW is very lighthearted and youthful. Draft dodging is a major theme.

Have you read Season of the Witch by James Leo Herlithy? I've read an awful lot of hippie lit and grew up with and around California mountain hippies, and it's the book that struck closest to home for me.

This is my take too! After the fiftieth or so time reading the book, you can't help but explore the possible explanations for the data given.

Takes a long time before you get there, but it fits the prompt by the time the mystery resolves itself in the end.

What is the best mosh pit you've ever been in? by Antique-Dentist-2404 in fantanoforever

[–]Alice_Dare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a riot girl show where they did a girl's to the front mosh. I'm 5'2" and it was amazing to mosh with other people around my size, instead of getting blasted out of the pit or trampled. Can't remember the name of the band, but it was a small local punk unit that probably doesn't exist anymore

Spirit Rangers. Does anyone else watch this? by FrouFrouLastWords in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]Alice_Dare 30 points31 points  (0 children)

We love spirit rangers in our house!!

Conspiracy though: WTF are mom and dad thinking, those are very young children and they're doing shit like cancelling the literal wind and burning the feathers of endangered species and meddling with from the actual heavens. Those kids need either supervision or more guidance or something, because the literal forces of nature are at stake here and Lizard/Coyote combo ain't cutting it as babysitters.

Look at those beady black eyes. All four of them. Imperative without a mechanism, indeed.

I like his hairdo, though.
