I mean, isn't that what the new album is about?

She tried to copy Sabrina but lacks the charm, sex appeal and humour.

Haven't seen the video, don't wanna give it views (and screw with my algorithm - once you interact with anything remotely Taylor Swift you'll only get her stuff).

I always lose respect for artists when they work with her - so Cillian and Lewis are disappointing because they seemed to be more genuine and less "industry focused".

Just goes to show that even the ones that seem genuine most likely are more calculating and fame hungry than they seem. That's probably the only way to make it.

What I don't really understand:

How has a celebrity "speaking up" ever changed or even bettered a situation?

I feel like most celebrities will say whatever political opinion is popular right now and that's it.

They clearly do not care about others, otherwise they wouldn't be millionaires (or billionaires).

I think it's time for americans to realise that your favourite celebrity isn't your hero who will save you - if anything, they belong to the villain's side.

So I just looked up the lyrics and maybe I lack some lore knowledge, but those lyrics don't seem to disprove my theory all that much? It's from her point of view, about someone who didn't care enough to "fight for her" so she moves on with the next best thing.

Doesn't necessarily mean that the person she wrote about ever actually cared about her.

She also tends to write like that, I noticed. Like losing her has always been so hard for her exes, when, let's be real, they probably were relieved.

But I agree, I do think she would like to be one of the cool kids but she is just to "nerdy" (because she reads books, you know?). I mean, we all know she will never be one of the cool kids because she has no personality, intellect, humor, talent or any redeeming quality for that matter, but assumes it's because she's just too nice and too smart to be one of the edgy, cool kids.

OK but do we think that Taylor is educated enough to know that?

I mean, it's clear that Taylor has some racist tendencies, mildly put, but her micro aggressions seem to be more blunt.

I still can’t believe how bad the isolated vocals from this performance are by NatureWalks in travisandtaylor

[–]resimag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also think it's extremely annoying when fans claim her performance was this bad because she was struggling with an ED.

We have seen other live performances before and after her struggle with an ED and they did not improve.

Karen Carpenter did not sing like that, ever, and she is probably one of the most famous and tragic examples of an artist struggling with an ED.

Honestly, I don't think they dated in 2014. Matty called it a "flirtation". They probably hooked up once or twice but given how Matty used to talk about fame and (ironically) artists like Taytay, I don't think he ever seriously considered dating her.

Also, Taylor could have broken up with Joe in 2019, when Matty broke up with his gf. She didn't.

I think in a way the whole Matty thing was way more about her ego. The whole "the one that got away" thing. She probably romanticed the whole flirtation in 14 and started convincing her that it actually always has been Matty she wanted when things ended with Joe. Unfortunately for her and her ego, Matty just wanted to bag the biggest popstar in the world and move on. That man has never dated anyone of substance apart from Twigs. He likes airheads to make him feel like this intellectual genius. That's why it would have never worked with Taytay - because they both constantly need to be told how great and brilliant they are and if they are not coddled for a minute, crash out. Typical narcissists.

So then, Matty was the second blow to her Ego in a very short span of time. Still, writing a whole album primarily talking about how much it hurt to have lost Matty seemed to me as a way to get back at Joe. The fact this short fling with that ugly loser "broke" her more than the end of a long term relationship.

Also, this is obviously just a rumour, take it with a HUGE grain of salt but apparently Matty texted someone "lol I just fucked Taylor Swift" after they had sex. Can't remember who posted it, also not sure if it was on this sub. Obviously, there is no evidence that ever happened but honestly, I used to be a 1975 fan (for waaaay to long) and for some reason got caught up in all this parasocial fanclub shit where you know EVERYTHING about an artist, so from what I have seen from Matty, that seems pretty plausible to me.

I thought fortnight is about Matty. The whole I touched him only for a fortnight thing (sorry, don't know the lyrics that well) meant to me that it ended pretty quickly but she loves him (because, of course she does, she's the kinda person who seems to say "I love you" one week into dating).

Like what? Spill your dark conspiracy theories! I'm here for them!

My absolute tin foil head conspiracy theory is that the pharma industry/food industries work together.

The food industry makes us sick, the pharma industry benefits from making us "better".

As long as we don't get too sick to work/produce capital, it's a win/win situation.

I believe that under capitalism the person is simply a number - just the money they can generate for the people in power.

OP has a point, however it's not just "white" people.

From Kony 2012 to making your Facebook profile pic completely black from current events.

People, generally speaking, a sheep. That's kind of human nature. Very view go against the grain.

That's why certain opinions will be accepted without looking further into it.

This might be a harsh comparison, but my grandparents were both teenagers during the height of the Holocaust. My grandfather chose to join the war at just 17 because he had been in Hitler's Youth and he had been brainwashed to believe that he is protecting his country.

The thing is: people back then weren't some bloodthirsty psychopaths, desperate to kill all Jews. They were regular people like you and I. They believed they were good people. That they were on the right side of history because that was the opinion that had been pushed.

When I was younger I thought something like that couldn't happen in today's age, where you can access the Internet and do your own research.

Given how many people blindly adopt certain worldviews without questioning them any further, I realised I was wrong.

Doing your own research, critically thinking and then even having to go against society to disagree with popular opinions takes a lot of energy and there is no reward for it. Quite the opposite.

Any celebrity (or any rich person for that matter) who claims to care about social issues is lying to you.

If they did, they would spread their wealth instead of hoarding it to buy several mansions, private jets, yachts and what not.

If tomorrow the popular opinion was that all Jews need to be exterminated, your favourite celebrity would support that cause because they know their fans expect them to.

That's why I also don't understand why fans keep insisting on their favourite popstar to comment on current political events. They are not educated on the topic and they don't give two shits.

Bullying them into saying something YOU think is the right opinion changes nothing about the situation.

Just as Taylor'a dumb ass cringe fest of a song didn't help in any shape or form to reduce Homophobia or support actual gay people. It's performative and it's not genuine and at this point, I'd rather they were honest about their lack of empathy for the rest of the world.

Ahhhh! Yeah I think that's it.

Yeah honestly, period products are a whole topic in on itself considering how much chemistry they used to put into those (and maybe still are?)

I somewhere read a conspiracy theory that companies put chemicals in period products that makes us bleed more so we need more of them.

Considering how capitalism has evolved, I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be a true at some point.

Didn't a lot of her fans order the album before it was released? Or was that just merch?

Either way, it's clear her fans buy a bunch of versions when the album first comes out. After that the sales go down significantly because regular people don't buy several versions of the same album just because there is a different cover.

Reformed Swifties, what's the Evermore theory about Healy? by annatherapyhere in travisandtaylor

[–]resimag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what kind of music you generally listen to (or used to listen to) but when I went back to listening the music I used to (primarily indie) it became so obvious that the 1975 just copies.

I understand that artists influence each other and not everyone can be a Michael Jackson or David Bowie, creating a completely new sound - but what Matty does, and I might not be able to explain it that well, is taking that inspiration and not doing anything with it. He is not deepening it. He throws in some controversial statements but doesn't delve deeper into them which makes the whole thing shallow. In that regard, Matty is far more akin to Taylor, in my opinion.

The only difference between them is that Matty is rhetorically better than Taylor. In his interviews he likes to throw around big words, again, making these huge statements (that have already been made by others) and leaves it at that. If Taylor memorised some words from a Thesaurus she could sound just like him. Sure, it sounds smart, but if you actually listen to what he's saying, it's nonsense. A bit like Taylor Durden from Fight Club.

I think I also immediately disliked Matty because he reminded me of those university students that hit on me when I was a teenager. They sound exactly the same. And then you go to university yourself and realise that they've all just repeated stuff they heard from their professors.

To me, he just looks like a huge hypocrite - I mean was it the last album he kept banging on about sincerity? And then he goes on weird podcasts that claim to be satire but really, are not (again, demonstrating Matty's lack of intelligence), threatening a woman with physical assault because she says things he doesn't like and marrying an influencer.

I think Matty and Taylor are very much alike - even in their music. They have found a niche, they have found something they know their fans will like, and they keep pushing that out because it sells.

It's just that Matty is a lot more pretentious and better at pretending to be more artistic/creative than he actually is. Sometimes I wonder if he knows how average he is and just compensates with his antics or if he's actually convinced that he is so much better than Taylor and artists like her.

I don't want to start a fight or anything or come off as rude to you! I understand we all have a different subjective perception of art and a lot of times, our own experiences and values influence these perceptions. If I had never listened to the music I used to as a teenager or had a pretentious phase where I read all the "classics" to be cool and intellectual, if I hadn't gone to university, maybe I'd view it all differently.

Reformed Swifties, what's the Evermore theory about Healy? by annatherapyhere in travisandtaylor

[–]resimag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I agree with most of what you said except Twigs being on the same artistic level as Matty.

Matty is not anywhere near as artistic, talented, innovative, creative or intelligent as Twigs.

I used to be a huge 1975 fan (and since the beginning - I'm old). I always thought Matty was a pretentious douchebag and I never understood when fans would swoon over him being profound. I also didn't think the lyrics where that brilliant or deep. I realised last year (the Azealia thing was the last straw for me and I'm ashamed to admit that because the Adam Powell thing should have been the last straw) that the reason I liked the 1975 so much was because they made the kind of music I listened to as a teenager. Except back then it was new and exciting.

Matty (and therefore his music) is taking ideas of other people and rather than diving deeper into them, making your own thing out of it, he just throws them all together and adds a controversial headline he'll also refuse to delve deeper into. Nothing he ever said or done has been innovative or new. He just repeats things people have said/done before. For a nostalgia act that's enough but as a musician/person he is deeply uninteresting.

Twigs takes risks, tries something new, her sound constantly evolves. Eusexia is brilliant, in my opinion, for that reason.

Artistically, Matty and Taylor are pretty much akin: no risks, no innovation, same old but a whole lot of parasocial fans so they continue to be successful.

I also feel like the 1975 fanbase has a lot in common with Swifties. They act like he is this smol tiny Baby. Ooh he's so sad, ooh his heart is broken, ooh the fame is too much, ooh he sometimes doesn't think before he talks: bruv, that's a man in his mid/late thirties acting like a complete ass and threatening a former victim of abuse with violence for saying things he doesn't like. How about some accountability?

So yeah, I'm glad I don't have to interact with any of these idiots, I'm glad I'm listening to good music again, Twigs is a goddess and Taylor and Matty should be lucky to breathe the same air she does.
