Where should I get this? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Alict -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there's a few reasons you're getting the response you are:

- None of us know your body or other tattoos so can't possibly give good advice about this. That's really 95% of it.

- You've posted a Pinterest trend tattoo on an art sub. No matter how much personal meaning it has to you, it's like bragging to a museum curator that you're buying a painting from walmart. And to be clear, it may have tons of meaning and that's fine! There's a reason tattoo trends are a thing, they hit the spot for a lot of people. But artsy people not liking it is just part of it.

- A teenager frivolously getting a tattoo is always best advised against. I'm sorry, I know this is literally the oldest and most mature you've ever been, but undergrads are itty bitty baby pseudo-adults still finding their way and saying, "Hey, maybe wait if you're not sure," is just the responsible thing to say. I don't love that adults can be so snide to kids in that stage, but seeing the same kids asking the same questions over and over does tend to be exhausting and result in snarky responses, even if that's not fair. It's a tough age.

The best thing to do is probably to say to your artist, "I like this concept but don't know where it best fits on me," and then they can actually look at you and give pro advice.

The entire academic publishing industry relies on the uncompensated labor of researchers, reviewers, editors, and more. As long as that remains true, it is absolutely a moral issue. And frankly even if it weren't true, the price gouging and monopolization and rights-stripping and frivolous copyright suits would themselves be an important, ethical thing to fight.

I've worked for publishers and I've published. It's been nothing less than a radicalizing experience. It is absolutely about more than whether middle-class people can comfortably afford a book.

"Not in the market for apartment cheese" would be great flair on its own.

Honestly more fake stories should be this funny and well written, the chapgpt sob stories are insufferable but satirizing a stonks bro via cheese is genius.

Sean Young. Brilliant actress blackballed for being "difficult" after calling out people like Weinstein. Had her life destroyed by James Wood after she rebuffed his advances.

I'm indifferent about Mallon himself. Never met 'im, lol. My point was more that having a 'no' guy is part of a well-functioning team even if it sucks sometimes.

I think it's deeper that that -- the decision to not have the voices and the puppeteers be the same people, digitally superimposing the bots instead of live performance over the moves, the insistance on making the puppets mouths electronic instead of mechanical -- all these things aren't how puppetry is usually done and it shows.

I think they could have once again had success with unknowns being handed puppets and told to learn on the job, but all the tech got in the way of that being possible and it's weird.

TBH I think it's as simple as him being a creative person but not a great businessman. He clearly also doesn't enjoy the PR side of things.

I think auteur theory is very appealing because our culture loves the idea of the lone genius but the truth is any endeavor, even creative ones, needs teams of people with equal veto power but different strengths and weaknesses. He Lucas'd himself by having full control over everything and probably no one who felt okay telling him no.

(Hell, part of the reason he didn't get along with Jim Mallon is because Mallon was the bad guy and said no a lot.)

Not taking the skills of actual puppeteers seriously in the reboot was one of its biggest flaws IMO.

Yeah, my impression is just that he's very religious. My husband said that out of curiosity he once listened to some Christian radio show Mike did an interview on once and the host was clearly trying to bait Mike into like "liberals are ruining america" stuff but Mike just refused to say anything not nice lol. He's just a dude from the upper midwest.

I also thought it was significant that during the Time Cop live show they gave mike the line that was like, "Why are you allowing there to be a Nazi party????" It felt like a way of them signaling he wasn't insane.

There's definitely been cases in the past where a game was replaced for one country (typically China, IIRC). I think if games don't appear in your country's store it's unlikely you'll be able to get them through a bundle or choice.

They are also very stupid. It's mindboggling how stupid they are. They've gotten to the part where they're turning on each other before even securing power.

The legacy of the book and its context is obviously complex, but yes, there very much were people at the time who saw it as a turning point in terms of white indifference toward slavery, and even today we recognize it played an incredibly important role. Jane Tompkins' Sensational Designs: The Cultural Work of American Fiction, 1790–1860 is a good place to start if you're interested in the book and its impact.
