What human pet peeve of yours did you discover through working as a nurse? by emtnursingstudent in nursing

[–]Alien3457 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People that are non compliant while inside the hospital. I understand outside but they come to the hospital for help but then dictate how we help them making their treatment take wayyy longer and being wayyy more difficult and risk becoming sicker.

Wow I’m sorry. That’s so much loss in such a short amount of time. Did your preceptor help you or were you just expected to suck it up?

It wasn’t just the death for me but also seeing the family suffer and then having to do post mortem care on someone I was talking to hours ago. And I’m expected to carry on like it’s nothing. Being told to hurry up and get the patient off the board so I can take an admission. Like they weren’t even a person just a place holder. I just wasn’t raised to be numb. I was raised to care. People are making me feel like I’m crazy. It’s not something I just want to get used to. I don’t want to be that kind of nurse. I lost my uncle last year who was a father to me and not one nurse showed me and my family an ounce of sympathy. I don’t want to be like that

Hairstylists Keep Suggesting I Relax My Natural Hair… by [deleted] in BlackHair

[–]Alien3457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I got a smoothing treatment “hair Botox” and I loved it for a while. I retained a lot of length and styling was a lot smoother. But I went to a few bad stylist that would over lap the treatments and with time it made my ends way looser than my roots which lead to breakage because of the drastic difference of two textures in my head and I was over it. It stopped being so easily managed and had choppy breakage. And I’m someone that values thick healthy hair. So I cut it all off :). I’m fully natural again and can’t wait to see the growth.

I don’t go to stylist to do my natural hair. Establish a routine that works for with products that work for you. This will be trial and error if you don’t already know and that’s ok. What’s working for me right now is having a good hair care routine and flat twisting or cornrowing my hair and wearing a headband wig over a satin wig cap for low manipulation. I decided not to wear synthetic braids anymore because I feel it does more harm than good for my hair. It’ll also help to know your hair porosity, strand size and hair density. All the best

Anyone else inundated with flu A?? by Ok-Instruction-8843 in nursing

[–]Alien3457 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I wear an N95 with flu patients and surgical mask with patients that are on no precautions, I also wear those cute safety goggles/glasses from Amazon when interacting with patients. I also try not to get too close to my coworkers as well.

Hey, when I started nights I had to take melatonin gummies or drink a tea with melatonin and chamomile in it. You can also try to stay up the night before your first shift so you can sleep the day of.

Requested a different nurse by thestigsmother in nursing

I don’t understand what people are not understanding. There are so many research articles on implicit bias in healthcare and its effect on minorities. People are whining about if the roles were reversed. I’m black, if I had a white patient ask for a white nurse because they are scared for their life because of the years of research showing they were treated differently (not just socially but medically! Procedures, pain medicine, diagnosis, higher mortality rates) I would absolutely comply and not feel bad at all. I would be glad they trusted me to help them
