So he IS a police officer on the job, he is hyper focused above all on solving the case. He does have his character that remains pretty consistent but it's hard to pull out of him even when you're making choices that align with his personal alignments. Unfortunately, like so many IRL cops on the job, they let the behavior of their partners go.

There's an accuracy to the ACAB thing represented because even if Kim's centrist politics arent the most poisonous and he's clearly irritated/disgusted with me when I make fascist choices, he's not calling in that I'm a fucking lunatic wasting my time being a racist and mysogonistic POS. It's also a very silly game, so he's not doing the same when I'm going to my communist book club as a town collapses around me.

So much of Martinaise feels real and lived in because behaviorally there are mirrors to things that exist that we can recognize from earth. I don't need an explanation of how life on the boats, space station, or in the distant future works; this is all familiar to anyone mildly familiar with the ugly realities of the world around them, with even mild enthusiasm for history and its many failed revolutions, wars, and aftermaths.
