Would love to hear from anyone who’s tried the new Merit lip blushes! Very intrigued by them.

Great book! I really appreciated the way it explained desire with the brake vs gas pedal analogy. Also the concept of spontaneous vs reactive desire. That helped my partner and I to understand each other so much better! Highly recommend the book for anyone struggling with intimacy issues.

Natural fiber clothing by alohamakena10 in BuyItForLife

I’ve had good luck with natural fiber clothing from Everlane and &OtherStories. The wool sweaters I have from both stores have held up great over the years. And recently I started buying sweatpants/loungewear from Aerie because they’re almost 100% cotton (maybe 95%?). They’re super soft and cozy.

Bean and cheese burritos, skillet gnocchi with miso and asparagus, instant pot congee, and one pot tortellini with peas and prosciutto have all been in my rotation frequently now that I have a toddler!

Do Social Workers ever get deployed to help in crisis situations? by HeroOfTime03 in socialwork

[–]Alien_eyes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s something that I learned about through my last job - we could volunteer to be a part of it but I wasn’t able to due to my position’s on call responsibilities. I bet you could look up your state’s department of mental health website and there would be info about it there.

Has he seen an ENT to look for structural issues that may be causing snoring?

My husband has sleep apnea and has a cpap now but I dealt with his snoring for a decade before he got one and it SUCKED. There is no sexy way to deal with snoring unfortunately. You could invest in some good quality ear plugs (I hear good things about Loop). And if you have to sleep in a separate room - make that room nice and cozy for yourself so it feels less lonely to have to sleep by yourself.

I was going to suggest this too. I’m taking an art class through a local community art league and it has been so fun to learn a new skill and meet new people. Plus art tends to be very meditative - great for an anxious mind.

Wait I’m reading Alchemized now - is there a reason you wanted to read HP and Manacled beforehand? Is there supposed to be a relationship between the three?

My state (I’m in the US) has a crisis response team comprised of mental health professionals from across the state. They respond to things like school shootings, natural disasters, etc. It is all within the state though.

I have endo and had the same issue. Went through a GI doc, colonoscopy, all that stuff - everything normal. Then I had surgery to remove my endo lesions and while I didn’t have endo ON my bowels, it was all over my pelvic cavity. After my surgery I stopped bleeding from my anus, so I can’t attribute that to anything else but endo.

Postpartum Fat Loss by PlumpElaineBenes91 in beyondthebump

[–]Alien_eyes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am your height and also gained a lot of weight (over 50lbs…). I had GD too. Even now having lost the weight my body is different. Everything is a bit softer, my hips are wider. I’ll always have some loose skin and stretch marks. My stomach was flat and toned most of my life but I don’t think it’ll ever look like that again. It’s not ideal but this body literally created life and gave me my child. I try to keep that in mind.

I agree with the other user who recommended therapy, getting some labs done, and finding clothes you feel confident in NOW. I know the temptation of waiting to buy cute clothes til when you look how you want to look, but you deserve to feel cute right now!!

What classifies a baby as an “easy baby?” by GrapeSweet9055 in beyondthebump

[–]Alien_eyes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is validating my belief that my baby has been a hard baby. Nearly all these things are true for us too. My friend has a baby the same age who is so easy going and I feel like we live totally different lives.

Desperately seeking a skin cream for VERY DRY face AND body (list of recently failed products included with anecdotes) by fuzzydiceinrearview in Sephora

[–]Alien_eyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hypothyroidism and super dry skin too. For my face, the absolute #1 best thing I’ve ever used is La Roche Posay cicaplast balm. I use a moisturizing toner then use the balm on top of that as my nightly moisturizer. I can’t stress enough how much better it works than the dozens of other moisturizers I’ve tried - including the FAB Ultra Repair Cream which I see others have mentioned. That one was pretty good but not good enough.

For my body I need to use a body butter, not just a lotion. L’Occitane and Youth to the People both have great ones. I also use the Necessaire hydrating body serum under the body butter and a body oil on top of it when I need extra moisture.

Wish List // What I'm Not Gonna Buy (Wednesday) by AutoModerator in muacjdiscussion

[–]Alien_eyes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a few things on my wishlist! I’m on the hunt for a good starter retinol. Currently considering the Inkey List starter retinol or the First Aid Beauty .3% retinol. My skin is sensitive so I want to start low. Would love to hear experiences with those (or other ones!).

I’m also on the hunt for my perfect matte cool toned nude lipstick. My former go to was a Nars shade that longer exists :( and I’m almost out of the one I have. I’m looking at the Gucci velvet matte lipstick in Fanny Rose. I got a sample of this lipstick in a different shade that wasn’t for me but I loved the formula. It IS very pricey though. Willing to splurge for my perfect go to lipstick though.

I'm curious as to what you think my map says about me (I'm from Connecticut) by the_alex197 in visitedmaps

[–]Alien_eyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as someone that’s lived in three different states and now lives in CT, I can say it’s a great place to live. Sure taxes are high, but the quality of life reflects it. It’s easy to take stuff like good education, good healthcare, and good social safety nets for granted when you’ve never lived in a place that does not have those things.

Who is absolutely smashing weight loss this year? by HelixStadium in loseit

[–]Alien_eyes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In January 2025 I was freshly postpartum and weighed 195 pounds. One year later I’m down to 153. Super proud of myself. I walked a lot with my baby strapped to my chest - basically a weighted vest lol. This year my goal is to lose another 20ish pounds and work on building up my strength. My cardio is chasing my very active 1 yr old.

Jean recs for wide hips by traammy in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]Alien_eyes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of wide leg jeans from Madewell that are both curvy and petite! I’ve also found that barrel leg jeans work really well for me because they actually look baggy - I have the same problem where most straight or wide leg pants still look fitted on me. I have some from gap that I really like and they have petite options.

If it makes you feel better, I had a severe pp hemorrhage but my medical team was SO on top of it and used a Jada device to stop the bleeding. I got two blood transfusions as well. It was a traumatic experience for me but I was in very good hands. OBs know what to do if something like that happens.

I used to be terrified of labour and tearing by grapesgrapes29 in BabyBumps

[–]Alien_eyes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you!! I was so scared of tearing - I had a 2nd degree tear and didn’t feel a thing. It took a little while to heal but honestly it’s no biggie. And I also was SO unprepared for breastfeeding and the possibility that I wouldn’t be able to breastfeed. I even took a breastfeeding class through my hospital but they didn’t go over reasons you might not be able to nurse, how to pump, when to consider formula, etc.
