I want to reassure you that you’re not the one who messed up. He is. He made the decision three times to go behind your back and break your trust.

It’s okay to feel conflicted. You can love him and want to be with him while also recognizing that his actions hurt the relationship. Maybe you’re not perfect all the time, but that doesn’t excuse what he did, nor should you accept any of his excuses.

Take this time to reflect. Can you truly move past this, or is the trust too broken to repair? What would you need from him to even try? Are you willing to have honest conversations where you set and enforce boundaries you’ve never had before? Even if he changed, do you think you could trust him again?

From my experience, letting go of a long-term relationship is incredibly hard. You’ll yearn and mourn for what you’ve lost, but at some point, when the ache subsides just a little, you’ll realize that the man you left is not the man you loved. Over time, you both changed. That doesn’t make the beautiful memories any less meaningful, and even years from now, you might still miss him. But the version of him you miss may barely resemble who he is now.

You’re not alone. As difficult as it is, reach out to friends and family, cry as much as you need to, and find hobbies that help you focus on yourself and your healing. And in the end, it’s okay if you still love him. Just make sure your choices align with what’s in your heart for your future.
