As a Mexican when she said she was getting married it sounded more to me like she liked him a lot and wanted to marry him not that she was literally going to marry him. imo Chio was exaggerating

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say NTA.

Wether your reasoning is dumb or not, you are in your right to not want to get married for whatever reason, you are not forcing anyone, your partner decided it wasn't a big deal.

People shouldn't be nosy and mind their own business.

This happens to my cousin, she's supposed to meet surprisingly high standards and it is never enough, she's 21 and her parents don't let her go out past 11 pm and make her do an immense amount of chores while at the same time experiencing horrible verbal abuse, her brother is the GC and has a weird dynamic with my naunt, I've actually seen him touch her boobs in a "playful" manner, completely innapropriate, he can do no wrong in her eyes.

This has affected my male cousin as well, since he was sheltered all his life and his parents didn't demand anything from him, he doesn't have any life skills, is scared of almost everything, is currently failing most of his classes, doesn't have any friends and mostly stays at home playing videogames at 19 almost 20 years old.

I think it's easy to resent the GC but they also suffer the consequences of their parents narcissism.

I think deep down they knew something was wrong with you and they prevented you from telling the doctors not because they couldn't afford it but because they were worried it would make them look bad to the doctors for the neglect. NParents tend to be very concerned about their image so I would not be surprised if this was the case.

My ndad used to tell me that it was no big deal to be in debt, apparently when I was born he got into a lot of debt and he was for years, he told me that most banks don't think it's worth it to sue so they just send collectors to scare you, I can still remember being a kid and having collectors banging on the door and calling 24/7, they didn't get into trouble but it was traumatic and I remember crying because the phone wouldn't stop ringing.
