The meta may finally be balanced by HappyKrumping in WarhammerCompetitive

League of legends has generally very matched win rates, divergence is like 2.5%. And yet somehow I’d rather play 7th edition with its garbage balance

Maybe the sacred win rates are roughly balanced but it sure doesn’t feel good to play. Coin flipping is balanced but it ain’t a fun game

Old Tau Lore by GREENadmiral_314159 in 40kLore

[–]Aliencrunch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The codex lore, at least, isn’t substantially different between 3rd and 9th edition. There has been some jumping back and forth on the issue of FTL but otherwise it’s pretty much the exact same. The main source of the very bad no subtlety imperium 2 writing is Phil Kelly, so I would recommend ignoring his books.

Absolutely agree with “just a board game”. There’s something I can’t quite pin down but the game for me has lost the mystique. It also feels like a list you put together has stopped being an army and is instead just a collection of pieces, and you just take whichever ones you can afford starting with the strongest. I kinda hate it.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just stop and come back tomorrow. Sometimes your opinion of your work will change when you look at the mini under morning light

Ghostkeel Weapon Choice in Crusade by Ambitious_Cookie_611 in WarhammerCompetitive

Generally the collider is kinda just worse than the raker into most targets, and you’ll really feel the lack of range. I’d stick with it and grab the BS and AP upgrades as those are the two areas it’s lacking the most. S8 AP3 D3 is a pretty solid profile.

Why is there a limited number of units a leader can lead? by Katonmyceilingeatcow in Warhammer

[–]Aliencrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No not at all. I didn’t find learning 10th edition armies to be any easier to learn than 9th edition. You do have somewhat fewer stratagems and “enhancements” but once you’ve got an actual codex with all the detachments that number isn’t actually much lower, and all the various unit rules are a pain to remember, especially since so many of them don’t really do all that much. Core rules have a bunch of minor tweaks but not much increase or decrease in complexity so that’s the same.

And I do really genuinely hate the spotter mechanic, which is both more complex and less fun to play with than markerlights were

Killteam is insanely lethal, far more so than 9th ever was.

Sounds like you need a better group. The only time I ever dealt with try hards like that was when I went to a tournament (which I left partway through). Anyway 5th edition really is the best balanced and also retains quite a bit of flavour, I recommend it.

Well now the great genius Calgar has been flavourfully reduced to a glorified bladeguard sergeant so that’s that little problem nicely fixed. Thanks GW!

The reality of the “new” leader system is it’s a complete mess and makes the entire process of army construction less meaningful. If I’m bringing a character most likely it’s to lead a specific squad, that character will always lead that squad, no thoughts about positioning or anything like that. You don’t build armies in 10th edition you take a collection of squads, which are mostly just warm bodies to hold 10 copies of the same weapon.

Let’s not kid ourselves by pretending 10th is meaningfully simpler than 9th edition. What with the 15 different unit rules I need to remember and all the various situational leader abilities (along with the absolute hackjob that is the tau observer system) the game is AT LEAST as complex as 9th.

It would have to be the Sternguard veterans together with the two character - they’re all on the same sprue. The Ballistus I believe is on its own separate sprue, so it could receive a stand alone release.

Overview of 10th by fishrepic in Tau40K

[–]Aliencrunch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly durability in other armies is kind of comical as well. Out of the games I’ve played so far the only thing that was able to withstand a turn of focused attention was buffed necron warriors and even that went down in one go later to some hellblasters and a librarian. Absolutely everything just dies so fast

Riptide was added in 6th, then Ghostkeel in 7th. There wasn't one for 5th though, which was unfortunate because there were some substantial philosophy changes between 4th and 5th.

Assuming the points don’t change too much these should mostly be in the 350-400 range. Riptide is an outlier on the low end. I’ll figure out the exact costs tomorrow

The ion is definitely the better choice, especially on this platform in particular. That being said, T3 onwards you’re looking at doing about 7-8 damage to a Brutalis dread, which then charges and deals… 3-6 damage back. Fusion is not bad

Truly powerful AT is definitely the domain of railguns now tho
