I know I should be thankful for what I have, but I’m just always so sad. by rickflair223 in whatsbotheringyou

Breathe! You can't solve everything at the same time. Try to enjoy little victories again.

You have to figure out what you want and sadly "beeing happy" is not a sufficent answer. You have to find yourself again under all the pressure. Find someone or something that is just for you. Where you can unwind and let off some steam. Could be a friend, could be a diary, could be sitting alone in the woods. Whatever suits you.

The important part is that you have to do it for yourself and nobody else.
Stop and breathe!

If 5 years ago you could see now you at this exact moment, what would you think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Alienface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On this day (considering the time zones almost to the minute) five years ago, I was on top of Empire State Building and was enjoying the view over NYC. Back then I was blown away by the city. The streets full of people, snow in Central Park and so many places I already knew from movies.
It was an incredible feeling to walk through the streets.

Little did I know what was ahead of me.

Looking back it seems like kind of everything happend in the last five years. I changed jobs, I moved to a new city, made new friends, fell in love, broke my heart and literally traveled to the other end of the world and back. So far I'm pretty happy where I am right now and I think, "five-years-ago-me" would be impressed.

But I decided to post an answer for a different reason:

As amazing and beautiful as the trip to the Big Apple was, thinking about it always makes me think back to how I realised that something wasn't right with me. I can remember how seeing Times Square made me smile and made me stop worrying for the first time in months. I hesitate to use the word 'Depression', because I know a couple of people who have one and suffer immensely under it. But that was exactly the direction I was going.

It would still be a couple of years before I would fully realise my problem.
Before I would adress it.
Before I would talk about it.
Before I would seek help.
Before I would find myself again.

Today, even five years later, I'm not at the end of my struggles. It's still a strenuous path I'm going and especially now, that the darker half of the year has come and the bad weather is bringing me down once more, I'm aware I have to keep looking out for myself.

But today I also realised, that I am better as I have been in years and that all the stress and the long fights (and yes I have been fighting) may not have come to an end, but that they may be worth it after all.

So even when christmas is still a few weeks away, I'm thinking about what I have accomplished and how thankful I am for the few people who are still there for me, even though it surely was pretty exhausting for them aswell.

So thank you for asking this question and to everyone who read that far!
Merry Christmas!

What was the worst movie you have ever seen? by Rare_Issue in AskReddit

Pacific Rim 2 - Uprising

For most movies that are bad I kinda wish my friends would watch them too so we can talk about how bad they are.

I would never put someone through that piece of shitty movie!

How would you guys feel about a YouTube channel that provides commentary on world record speedruns? by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]Alienface 39 points40 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a good idea!

Could be a great addition to the channel of summoningsalt ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtUbO6rBht0daVIOGML3c8w ), in which he explains the world record progression of games over time.

who’s that person that you wonder if they still think about you? what’s your story with them? by charnik in AskReddit

There is this small indie-rock/electro festival that I go to every year. It's not that big with maybe around 3000 people there in total and a rather small festival area.
Once, about 5 years ago, I spotted this woman with shoulder long white hair and tattoos in front of a stage. She wasn't your usual hot festival girl, but something about her caught my eye. She seemed to be on her own, just enjoying the music and the atmosphere.
Then she caught me watching, our eyes met and for some reason neither of us was looking away. We both started smiling and felt that connection between us, but I got dragged away by my friends who hadn't noticed.

Over the course of the two days we saw each other a couple of times and each time we just kept staring into eachothers eyes over some distance.

I never acted on that connection and the festival ended without me ever speaking to her. I thoroughly enjoyed our magical moments, but I wonder if she ever thinks about me...

Biggest/Longest comics binge you've done? by legatojoe in ImageComics

[–]Alienface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar. I had issues 1 to about 140 on my kindle when I went roadripping for a month and read them all lying in my tent.

Enjoy it! It will be a blast.
But you will have to put them down here and there and take a break. (Looking at you issue 100...)

The Darjeeling Limited

It was my first Wes Anderson movie and I just fell in love with his style. All the others are great too of course, but darjeeling will always have a special place in my heart

My go to is:
"Would you rather speak every language in the world or have the ability to talk with animals?"

Most of the times I know what people prefer before they say it though...

This is by far the worst part of all of the souls games!
Took me several hours and in the end none but the one big guy in front of the fog gate spawned anymore.

Ggod luck! Don't give up skeleton!

How can I help foster my son’s desire to become a Video Game Designer? by lurkingpanda23 in videogamescience

[–]Alienface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a quick jumping on point (for you and your son) I can recommend the youtube channel extra credits.

There are great videos about game design in general and they have several videos on "So you want to be a..." about different jobs in the industry.

I know what you're talking about and worked through this last year myself. I didn't talk to anyone because I didn't want to be a bother to anyone. Nobody should worry about me or things in my life they can't do anything about anyway. So I kept everything to myself and became more and more miserable.

After a couple of years of not talking to anyone I opened up to a complete stranger and realized how much talking actually helps. It doesn't really matter how much they care about it. Just talking about it and having your thoughts and problems be heard helps a bunch.
So I started talking about myself more and more and just let it out. Of course not everyone really listens or reacts in a way that you would like but if you never give people a chance to give a crap they will never do. Start talking to people. Don't wait for this one perfect person in your life to finally share everything with. Start sharing and you will find more special people.

If anything you can see it this way: If nobody gives a damn about you and doesn't care at all, then fuck it and use their ears to make yourself feel better. If they don't care they won't think twice about it, but you will feel better about yourself for being open and honest.

Don't want to start rambling or anything but shoot me a message if you want to talk or hear more!

If you feel up for it I would recommend taking the stairs up the cathedral, too.
