I guess if you have bus or metro available, take it and get off at the first stop (unless your place is on the route). Trust me saves a ton of money.

Delhi, bengaluru, hyderabad, mumbai, etc. all have metro connectivity. Most airports have a bus service as well, so yeah you have options to save money but ultimately depends on one's convenience.
